Hockey started in Trencin in Dukla. In extralige he debuted already as a sixteen year old in the 1997/98 season. In 2000, he chose him in the opening round of the NHL Minnesota Wild club in the first round as third in rank and became the highest-profile Slovak hockey player in history. Already in the following season 2000/01 he started playing for Minnesota, where he was the leader of his team despite his young age. He gave the first goal of the team.

In the 2004/05 season (during the lockup in the NHL) he played for Dukla Trenčín and for Färjestads BK in the Swedish Elitserien hockey. During the 2005/06 year he earned 2,679 mil. USD, after which he extended the Minnesota contract. Before signing, he did not want to risk injuries and therefore did not participate in the 2006 World Cup in Rige. Almost half of the following season did not do just for the injury, but he scored 30 goals in the base, with another Slovak hockey player Pavel Demitrom in the attack. In the first round of play-off his club fell out with Anaheim Ducks.
