Yes Alan Understands these Zen koans very well, but if he told you that he would be leading you toward a hoax. He explains this in "Zen bones." To explain the understanding of koans in logical form could lead a person to believe he understands something when in fact there was nothing to understand. If you would like help, I can explain these koans for you, but like i said I would be just making it difficult for your to really understand.

As far as I remember, I downloaded this from "the pirate bay" as a torrent under the name: Zen bones, Zen Flesh.

Oh man. I can't even begin in words to describe that what you're trying to get at is in the right direction, but fundamentally misguided. I'm no monk or expert of any kind, I would recommend going to a Zen or other Buddhist temple near you and talking to a monk or priest there. All I'm reminded of is a story where a guy goes to a Zen master with all of these questions, like the one you just asked, but then when he's in the presence of the Zen master he forgets all the questions and just feels like laughing. He's kind of embarrassed to admit this to the master, but when he tells him the master says "Great! Let's laugh!" and they just chuckle heartily, and the man is eventually enlightened. Or something like that. Just laugh friend.

Aside from the deeper meanings(which I don't get), these stories are really funny!

what meaning does any of this have? westerners love Buddhism and it is fascinating with sublime art but in essence means nothing and cannot lead to salvation or liberation, only Jesus Christ can do that, you don't have to be a spiritual athlete the understand that. Alan was a fascinating man of course.

What hes pretty much saying is every person seeking guidance and inner peace are looking for something they already have/are. And the secret to it all is nothing. Alan always says, Waking up is like walking through a door, turning around and realizing there was no door.

I went as far as the ghoose and the officer. I didnt get it.

The solar plexus is in the stomach area would represent the sun. The darkness around it all would be the third eye crown chakra.

These are not Zen Koans. But thank you anyway for these wonderful stories!

I couldn't understand the bamboo story until I found it's original form.
Then I couldn't find the I that found the story.

Most of these are not metaphors nor complicated at all.
They make me pretty happy. I'd be willing to explain any of these to anyone, if you must inquire.

edit: Although I admit, that would be completely missing the point xD

I think that the purpose of xenon and is not to give answers to questions but to get you to think. Perhaps there are not a single answer that we all will agree on. Perhaps the answers you give are a reflection on the type of person you are and I should reflect on my answers. Of course I could be full of shit. 😎
