Unfortunately Pokemon has been too scared to have the type of difficulty that made the game so popular in the first place or any real creativity as they don't want to move away from what's been working for them and making them ass loads of money.

It's a creatively bankrupt franchise with no difficulty and has been going that way progressively for 20 years.

I love how Hop always kicks himself even after he makes it to the finals. I legit felt bwd every time he was down. If he just played in handheld more than docked mode he could have got in some training on the toilet.

Between this gen and scarlet/violet, sword and shield had far superior gyms. Much more interesting puzzles!
Scarlet/violet went backwards in so many ways.
Also, remembering the beautiful mines and fairy forests, sword/shield had so much more going for it

One thing I can always love about scarlet and violet and sword and shield is that I don’t have to grind wild Pokémon for hours just to get a new Pokémon I caught up to my teams level

I played the game hoping that i might have some fun completing the ''full'' pokedex. I was hopefull that the DLC's will add them all in. So, the second i learned that the DLC's are not going to add the remaining pokemon to the dex i never played the game again and never even bought the DLC's

Pokemon only don't obey you if they're traded and over the badge requirement. You could level everyone up to 100 from the candies right from the start and steamroll the entire game very easily

I hope the next pokemon after Violet and Purple won't have an open world... Beside the difficulty in Sword and Shield, the whole region was very charming and looked pretty good. Nature zone was fun too

Welp. I loved Gen 8. I am also thoroughly enjoying gen 9. Are they perfect? No. Are they as bad as many people make them out to be? No chance. Also, the Switch is still a handheld system. It's just a dockable handheld. They had far more success with their handhelds and so it only made sense to make their next handheld their everything system. Sword is quite possibly one of my favourites along with Soulsilver. Black/White bore me a little and I've not given X/Y and Sun/Moon enough time yet.

Those old games still exist. It needs to be remembered that the new games also need to be accessible for new players.

I got the game for christmas, and i only played it because i saw Piers while looking at stuff about it and really liked his design.

I’ve had such a horrible time with solo play in dens because of AMELIAS CLEFAIRY, she takes almost every turn to make her clefairy use follow me and it just ruins a battle :/

After trying to play Scarlet and Violet, I had to investigate the other Switch Pokémon titles. This game looks amazing in comparison!

technically, nobody asks you for help in either gen 1 or 2. in gen 2 you are dragged to help lance, but that's because he sees potential in you, and wants to see how you deal with it. but the other situations, its mostly you helping out, before any adult can actually do anything about it.

gen 3 is a mess. because the situation is completely nonsensical from the get go. with 2 groups with plans that makes no sense. and nobody takes seriously enough.

I liked sword and shield. Pokemon Violet and Scarlet are MUCH worse

I will say, as much as I'm not a huge fan of sw/sh, the first battle is very very well designed for new players

Giving you only the basic normal move to fight the wooloo, and then letting you learn ember/water gun/branch poke right when you're against a pokemon weak to the new move is genius. Perfect example of guiding the player into learning the system without feeling coddled

For about 2 seconds, when hop goes "OMFG DID YOU JUST USE A FUCKING SUPER EFFECTIVE MOVE? YOU MUST BE SOME KIND OF FUCKING SAVANT"

they were SO close to a well designed tutorial.

Something that I've noticed in recent Pokémon games is that they have added so many QoL mechanics and fresh things to try out. But they ALL bring the game to a snails pace, the games feel like they need to be played on 1.5 or 2 times speed to actually get anything meaningful done in an "adult" amount of time.

As a child you can play Pokémon for hours upon hours at school, at night, pretty much all the time and so you can take your time playing. But as adults, you no longer have 8-12 hours a day to spend on useless/filler content.

Don't you find feathers on bridges in previous generations? And all the gyms prior to gen 7 was set up like puzzles in between battlers on the way to the gym leader.

Well the nice thing about these games are that the characters are far less annoying than the merry band of annoyances in XY, fucking LILLIE, and fucking NEMONA. I don't like any of the characters but they don't make me want to kill them either.

That and some of the Pokémon are the only positives I have to say about them.

Raihan is the master of dragons, not of Dragon type Pokémon. Dragons are serpents. Serpents are reptiles. Tortoises are reptiles, so they are almost dragon. Only a nitpicker would complain about that. And to make it more fitting, dragons are powerful and so is Torkoal since he got Drought. Dragons are also legendary, like Torkoal's ability, making it even more fitting for him to be on a dragon team.

I had NEVER considered that they made Sword/Shield for the DS, then forced it onto the switch... that would explain so much and now that you said it, I'm almost positive that's what happened, it just makes the most sense.

I feel bad for Bede's Reuniclus... He just kinda ditches it after becoming a Fairy Gym Leader.

The NPC AI is even worse in the DLC... In the Crown Tundra they added Dynamax Adventures, where you use randomized rental Pokemon to take on multiple waves of Raid Battles, and if 4 of your party's Pokemon faints you get kicked out of the den. Its heavily RNG dependant whether or not you succeed, and some of the Legendaries you face in there can be brutal (assuming you even make it that far). Kyogre and Zygarde are NOTORIOUS for their busted spread moves that can wipe an entire team instantly.

But unfortunately its the best Legendary shiny hunting method in the series, so if you're a shiny hunter you just gotta deal with the crap over and over and over again.

As is tradition with Pokemon games, I made a major error almost immediately. In every Pokemon game, your Pokemon learn moves mid battle. For some reason, Ember being learned in middle of the first battle I had in the game just blew out my remaining brain cells to a point where I forgot about something that's been in the games since the first one. Hell yeah.

Also I'm American, I just live in Germany because of my wife lol
