Ross's Game Dungeon: Sonic Heroes

My favourite game dungeon episode. Life is strange ep a close second. Thanks for making me chuckle, Ross.

In hindsight, Ross missing so many checkpoints is why he had such bad scores even when he played well. You get most of your score from level ups and destroying enough robots without dying or breaking a chain. Hitting checkpoint is basically the main way to get level ups.

Ross's point about eggman being able to outcompete any businesses is actually quite an interesting coincidence considering that it’s established across multiple games and other pieces of media that eggman owns many extremely successful businesses meaning that he likely has a stranglehold over the world economy and according to MOSTH he has been building public infrastructure for cities for decades in order to make his eventual takeover of the world much smoother and less jarring

I'm pretty sure the reason Sonic doesn't like Amy is either because he thinks she's too crazy, he doesn't want to settle down with someone (since he's all about freedom and mostly doing his own thing), or he's still in the "girls are gross" phase (or the writers are trying to appeal to boys in that phase). fun fact: according to some material from around when Amy was introduced, she's into tarot reading, and she got a reading that said she and Sonic are destined to be together, which is why she started following him around

I'm pretty sure if the cult of Sonic heard what you said about the adventure games, they would force you to listen to omochao until you went nuts

Sonics tornado move is more useful as a way to save yourself from falling or getting a little more height in your jump. Sometimes not even needing Tails

I love the suspense of knowing that one wrong move could make you fall. This is why I love the older Sonic games.

"Where did Robotnik get a liquid-metal robot?"

It's not clear. I think the implication is meant to be that Eggman did not intentionally do that. Rather, this game gives Metal Sonic the ability to replicate other characters' abilities, and he obtains the data of Chaos, the liquid being from Sonic Adventure, from Froggy and Chocola. Froggy was once possessed by a piece of Chaos, and Chocola is a Chao, which are the same species as Chaos, just not mutated. By copying their data, Metal gained his liquid form.

However, Robotnik is not in control of Metal Sonic in this game. Metal Sonic has done what sufficiently advanced Eggman bots are wont to do and turned on his creator. He's gone a little Nucking Futs in the process, and believes himself to be the true Sonic, but also a copy of the original, even though he refers to Sonic as his copy. Metal shoved Eggman in a cupboard and took over his empire, posing as Eggman during his confrontations with the protagonists to hide what he was doing.

This then, is why Eggman doesn't use this robot more often. After this game, Metal Sonic was downgraded as punishment for his rebellion. He no longer has any of the abilities he displayed in this game, besides power-copying, which has made two more appearances, but is itself nerfed, he can't store the abilities he copies now.

This version of Metal hasn't reappeared since, in the games anyway. He made an appearance in the comics, but to say that the writer of the comics missed the entire point of the Neo form would be an understatement. However, his final form, Metal Overlord, made an appearance in Sonic x Shadow Generations' newest promotional material, so that's neat.

Omg finally, someone who gets me when concerning why sonic games are frustrating. It's like I can't get into it because the slowing down is so annoying

Amy is a misunderstood character who has a monster crush on Sonic. Originally from Sonic CD, she met Sonic on his adventure, but was captured by Metal Sonic to use as a hostage. After this, she wanted to go on more adventures with Sonic. A lot of people, Sonic included, would treat her like a burden trying to slow him down, like a girl in a story for kids is sadly often portrayed, wheras it's that very free-wheeling adventurous lifestyle that Amy admires about Sonic (A lifestyle she wants for herself even though, yeah, she is a bit of a burden, due in aprt to her being the Sonic universe equivalent of Baseline Human). Her arc involves sort of realizing this and applying herself more to go on adventures on her own.

Her talking about "Marrying Sonic" is a throwback to a scene in Sonic Adventure 2 where she teases Sonic when he's the one caught and she's the one doing the rescuing for once. She asks Sonic to marry him with the same energy one would ask a waiter at a restaurant for a million bucks when they ask if you need anything. A tease (You notice Amy lets Sonic out anyway, even as he flat rejects her). A lot of people, ESPECIALLY THE WRITERS FOR LATER GAMES, wildly misinterpreted the intent behind this scene. (Again, she lets him out anyway. It was clearly a joke.)

Thankfully, as Amy's fanbase has grown, and with a writer shakeup at Sega, she's developed her own niche on the team, thanks to her Hammer basically being a portable Spring.

Also, Modern Sonic is 15 to Amy's 12. Knux is 16, Tails is 10, Eggman is 30 (And shares Sonic's Birthday)

This has been my favorite episode of them all! I LOVED this game as a kid and this brought back so many memories of what was like a fever dream. I got the chaos emeralds and going supersonic at the end was gaming cinema for me as a kid.

The into Music for the grind rails boss in the canyon still pops in my head from time to time.

We really need a Heroes mod or remaster that fixes all the bugs

Your skill at 3D platfomers are not to blame for your frustrations, this game is janky as hell. The whole game I felt like I was fighting Eggman's robots as well as the controls.

I love how Ross hates the main Sonic Heroes theme, when its one of the biggest not rude Sonic memes out there.

My favorite genre of Game Dungeon videos are the ones where Ross puts way more thought into the game's story and worldbuilding than the developers themselves did.

The whole sonic and amy situation makes a whole lot more sense when you know their ages (sonic is 15 I believe, Amy is 12). Amy has a childlike crush on Sonic and he has an adolescent aversion to her. so you weren't TOO far off but it's less that Sonic is an adult and more that he's a teen that's too cool for her

I wanted to enjoy the 2d Sonic games, but I feel like you had to memorize the levels to even start to enjoy the gameplay.

It’s a shame since those games have such beautiful pixel art.
