LIV - Light....such hypocrites...
ОтветитьThe 125 didn't come in until 1983, before that only the top 60 were exempt. Why does everyone feel so entitled? Players need to work for those spots, earning their way. 100 players is plenty.
ОтветитьWell just heard the tour will now PAY RYDER CUP PLAYERS! European players still playing to represent their countries. All about the money now…….
ОтветитьAt this point, who cares? Tour keeps reducing who can play. That will decrease opportunities for guys to keep playing. More journeymen tour guys will end up on Korn ferry which will push more guys off Korn ferry which will limit who even tries to make it as they leave college.
A guy like Eric Cole will not exist in tomorrow's tour.
Combine that with Golf Channel fall coverage not being shown on peacock and pgatour live coverage being super limited and I'm watching less and less golf anyway.
TV is lime social media, once you distance yourself from it you find that you don't miss it or need it.
Nbc, specifically, needs to get it together. Show golf on all your platforms, all year-round.
Hiding behind pace of play is terrible and pathetic. PGA tour is too deep to reduce membership.
ОтветитьWhy don’t we roll back the golf ball so it goes 1 yard max and then reduce the field size to 1 player like Tiger or Rory since it’s gonna take them all day to get around the course. This will ensure we always get to see the best player in primetime! Then we will call our fix a slow play cure. Brilliant.
ОтветитьI hate the fact that Monday qualifiers are dramatically reduced. I understand why but I think it was a good idea but since there were just a few graduates onto the tour I think they threw the baby out with the bath water. Honestly, I think they should have leaned far more into the route of “Playing In”to the actual tournament. For example, here’s my “commissioner for a day” thought…. The PGA Tournament is for the top n players that week. Those n players will play Friday, Saturday, Sunday only with practice rounds Wednesday/Thursday. Saturday is cut day. Everyone gets paid and the good players get rest and time off.
Monday qualifiers will play into the “qualifying tournament” each week. The qualifying tournament is Wednesday and Thursday on a nearby course. The qualifying tournament is made up of Monday qualifiers and lower ranked players (e.g. 100-125) with tour cards. The top y finishers from the qualifying tournament “Play In”to the PGA tournament which will have a field of n + y players. The qualifying tournament should be streamed on the internet and access should be either free or very low cost tickets (~$20) with highlights shown on TV (e.g. golf channel). For that matter they can wear shorts and it can be a party atmosphere with music (see what I did there). A small percentage of the purse for the PGA tournament, qualifying tournament ticket sales, and drink/vendor sales is given to the top y finishers of the qualifying tournament.
The PGA tournament (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is shown on TV and has some guys that are long shots from the qualifying tournament that are trying to get into the top 100 so they don’t have to qualify for the tournament each week and they’re guaranteed a pay day every tournament they play. The excitement of bubble watching that usually only happens at the end of the year with FedEx cup points happens each week. In addition, the LIV-like atmosphere and those it attracts can get their fill with the qualifying tournament, and everyone gets variety as the competition truly ramps up!
Also, they need to redistribute the pay 💰
ОтветитьThey should have three levels: Korn Ferry, PGA, and PGA Elite. 👍❤️⛳️
ОтветитьEamon doesnt want to admit the PGA tour doesnt have a spine. How many members on that board play slow af? I mean look at Annika. They had 120 players. They couldnt make the cut by Friday. The superstars that play slow dont want to admit they are scared of the Korn Ferry grads coming out of the gate hot. They have Jay Monahans balls in their hands and this proves it.
ОтветитьThe tour I loved is morphing into something ill despise.
Could implement shot-clocks or real penalties for slow play but instead they do things like this its ridiculous.
Moneys the root of all evil. Here’s a prime example.
ОтветитьBrian Harman should institute a rule that you have to hit within 15 seconds of addressing the ball, and limit it to 5 waggles per shot
ОтветитьIm ok with some of this. 156 player is too much as are 30 guys being promoted from the KFT. This will also help the DP Tour - which should really be taking advantage of the Sept - Dec window to have big events with more talent so its more compeitive golf year round which is a W for the fans.
ОтветитьEamon and Rex are Jay Monahan's personal stooges.
ОтветитьI'm sure all the guys outside the top 50 are thrilled 😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьTotal horsesh...! Rich get richer. Fire the whole bunch of self serving aholes.
ОтветитьSo does this mean oga tour players can be even more painstakingly slow now? Do we reduce the fields even further 10-20 years from now now.
The pga tour had this argument of tradition but they have literally eliminated every tradition they had at this point. The biggest one being to provide as many playing opportunities as possible.
The signature events NEED to be full field. I get the golden boys need their money to be closer to LIv, but man, but that’s not a good enough reason.
Monday qualifiers are huge. They get the communities into the events. Smaller fields means less local legends who might get an invite. For some fans it’s all about the locals. Or the underdogs. This is going to be felt by many fans whom may lose interest without these elements. Would I rather see some no names from other places or some cats we love from our area? Easy answer.
Conners, Reid. These are elite
Golfers who got their start on Mondays. These qualifiers have purpose.
Pace of play is a joke. It’s killing golf at all levels. But instead of fixing it, more messes are made
That being said 1oo is a nice round number.
The fellas who are happy making the cut while making serious cash, but do not make the broadcast and are not well known.... but are fantastic players will find homes elsewhere. From every action there is a reaction and all this is simply about profit. One beer at these events is now 2000 dollars. lololol
ОтветитьPGA is going to do whatever they have been told to do to keep the money flowing. At this point they have hitched their wagon and will follow where they are led.
ОтветитьThe magic of the PGA is seeing no names come out of nowhere and make a name for themselves. I thought they were going to fire Jay Monahan last year? Get that clown outta there.
ОтветитьMan too many unreasonable changes, reduction way too drastic, im just not even gonna try anymore to get on the tour I'm done and don't call me LIV ot interested
Ответитьgolf channel is a bullhorn for the pga! There commentary is laughable
ОтветитьThis is going to send people to liv golf and it will become more popular than pga
ОтветитьAbsolutely nothing about slow play which as a fan is the most important thing to me personally.
PGA and PiF both say with their mouths there needs to be unification for, "the good of the game" and with their actions the truth comes out: PGA downsizes and LIV is a glorified traveling CC Invitational. Deplorable on all sides.
EDIT: I don't usually disagree with Eamon, but I am a fan of Campos now going forward so it does affect the future. He's a guy I want to root for now at every tourney he's in. So it's not all retrospect.
