Excellent video lecture! I’m taking a course at the moment that surveys famous Hollywood film from 1910’s to 1960’s. I’m going to be focusing on the developments of existentialism throughout that period and it’s influence on film noir particularly in its stark aesthetic quality and nihilistic characters. This was a great starting point!

"The Postman Always Rings Twice" was an American remake of an Italian noir, "Ossessione" (1943), by Luchino Visconti.

"Ossessione" (1943) and "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946). It seems Hollywood's modus operandi to copy whatever and call it their own. There have been innumerable French comedies remade by Hollyweird which were disastrous by comparison. I can't cite the number of times I've seen examples of movies, in whole or in part, outright copied (poorly) by Hollyweird.
