David Thompson also quit the HBC to work for there rivals.
ОтветитьI hope you do more of these. You brought stories of people and events I have read about to life. AWSOME!
Ответитьthat is my greatest grandfather David Thompson on my mother's side of the family
ОтветитьMy hero. I have written several essays about David Thompson and read every book I can find. I was excited to see this!
ОтветитьHBC, please add a piece on Philip Turnor, the first navigator/astronomer appointed to HBC by Sir William Wales. Turnor journeyed with Samuel Hearne as well is the person who taught David Thompson his navigation and astronomy skills at Cumberland House, while he recovered from his broken leg. Philip Turnor deserves significant recognition in helping create/map what is today, known as Canada. I hope you may consider it.
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьHe wasn't English, he was Welsh. lmao.
Ответитьguess there was no man in motion in these parts before Thompson
ОтветитьWasn't he only 18 when he broke his leg? But you got a 40 yr old playing the part? Lol. Cut corners HBC and we will notice....
ОтветитьThompson is an ancestor on my fathers side. This video is incorrect, he broke his leg near Pine Island Saskatchewan. Pine Island does not have the rocky mountainous terrain shown in this vignette.
ОтветитьYou can't talk about David Thompson without also talking about Peter Fidler and Philip Turnor -- two other HBC men that were perhaps equally as important as Thompson, they just don't get the same recognition because as explorers, they came a little later than Thompson. Peter Fidler (my ancestor) also played a major role in the founding of the Red River Settlement as chief surveyor, and was also the first person to officially document the Metis flag and the battle of seven oaks.
ОтветитьGrens are trash
ОтветитьFuck the hbc
ОтветитьWhat!! 1 min. really? Is there a complete doc. lm sorry to say that kids seem to know more about US history .. the British really know how to bring history to life.
ОтветитьHOW CAN i SEE THIS AMAZING STOTRY HERE IN SWEDEN?
ОтветитьHe broke his lake so badly he almost died.... "BUT YA DIDN'T"
ОтветитьProud to say I'm related to this man, rip David Thompson and Charlotte small
ОтветитьFun fact. This is ggggggg grandfather 🤣
Ответитьand died penniless.
ОтветитьWhile he recovered from that broken leg he was an apprentice to Phillip Turnor -- my 5th great grandfather. He would teach Thompson everything he knew about cartography. It was Turnor who was the first surveyor sent by the Hudson's Bay Company to Rupertsland. He trained both Peter Fidler and David Thompson.
ОтветитьMy name is David Peter Thompson from
Rhodesia. 😁😁😁
