From what I remember, it was that the Chapter was created to fight demonic incursion, and that the final stage before full elevation was the controlled possession. They would be given 72 hours to use the lore and training to throw off the possession alone, and should they fail they would be killed. If they succeeded, however, they would be nearly impossible to possess by a daemon.

I cannot wait to see how many games workshop fans are still enthusiastic for Warhammer after Amazon is done with it. All hail the god emperor Henry Cavil for crusading against the woke mind virus.

The recent book was pretty good and added extra fluff to this chapter. I love how the Word Bearers thought they were Korhnate berserkers when they first encountered them only to notice they were way too methodical but just as crazy.
