Book to Film Adaptations I Need to Read

Ready Player One is out on DVD. It's been out for a while now. I will say that having read and watched the show, there are some notable differences in the adaptation. Luckily, I was able to enjoy both versions. :-)

I absolutely loved Where'd You Go, Bernadette. It is a book that you can't really pigeonhole or find books that are comparable. I hope you like it!

I was born in 1990 and loooved Ready Player One haha but I grew up playing video games. I enjoyed the movie but it was different from the book for sure.

I almost never watch movies, even though I would really like to! I somehow just never seem to get myself to it. I sometimes don't understand myself :D I just finished reading Picnic at Hanging Rock, which I found a little disappointing (but also had brilliant moments, I don't want to discourage you from reading it at all!), but I would love to see the new bbc adaptation and see what they made of it! And I think I would like to read all the other books you mentioned (and eventually sometime in the near or far future watch the adaptations :D).

I'm a 90s kid, and I love ready player one.. It was fast paced, action packed (I read it in two days, that's rare for me unless I'm enjoying the book), and I've always played video games so some references I got. It was an exciting story overall, with some mystery too (where are those damn keys?!) The movie was changed a bit, probably to make it more entertaining to movie goers, but I still enjoyed some of the changes.

I just watched Guernsey on Netflix and loved it. I’d recommend having space between reading Ready Player One and watching it. The movie is quite different and people were upset about it. I enjoyed the movie, but it was a year after I read the book and I had forgotten some of the details. I enjoyed it for what it was. Oh I can’t wait to see Between Shades of Gray!

I read the glass castle I loved the book it’s my favorite book. ❤️The movie was really good too. I want to read my cousin Rachel and picnic at hanging rock and see the movies. Crazy Rich Asians is supposed to be really good and I've owned the book for years but never picked it up. I won't let myself see the movie until I read it though. Also My Cousin Rachel is another one I own but haven't read. My husband really wants to see both movies so I better hurry up .

The Ready Player One book and movie are both enjoyable but they are very different. You have to be able to separate them from each other in order to enjoy the movie. I really liked both but I can view them as separate stories. I was very nostalgic reading the book.

Ready Player One is a book that I own and absolutely NEED to read soon, especially since I LOVED the movie! It just came out on blu-ray and I immediately bought it.

Between shades of gray is so great and so moving! We always lived in a castle is just wonderful and I really love Shirley Jackson because of that novel!
Also Daphne Du Maurier is one of my favorite authors ever, and My cousin Rachel is one of her best!
Loved this list and I really want to read picnic at hanging rock as well!

I just finished My Cousin Rachel today. It was so well done, each chapter I wanted to find out more of the story it had me hooked. I loved the ending.

Wonderful video April, Some of these I had no idea were adopted to films. The Glass Castle was a 5 star read for me, I loved it a lot. The film was good but not as good as the book. If you love the Glass Castle read Educated too which was released this year, another fantastic 5 star memoir. I'm looking forward to the movie The Silent Wife which will be starring Nicole Kidman. I loved the book a lot and Nicole is the perfect choice to play the title role.

Beautiful Boy. I guarantee this gets an Oscar nomination. Steve Carell and Timothee Chalamet Star in it. It’s being screened at the Toronto film festival. So amazing....

I wasn’t sure I would like Ready Player One but I surprisingly really enjoyed it! It was more plot-driven than character-driven and is a fast read.

Wow! Had no idea about all these movies....except the glass Castle, which I read years ago and saw the film as soon as it came out ( was wonderful, especially Woody Harrelson's portrayal of the father) this book in particular I think you should read before you see the film. I have the Bernadette one on hold at Library, as well as picnic at hanging rock.. Would love to see behind her eyes and the woman at the window in movie form! I'm presently wanting to read One flew over the cuckoo's nest...one of my favorite films...and have never read the book...have you? Thanks for all the info :)

I didn’t realize Bernadette had been made into a movie. I just finished it last week and really enjoyed it.

Hi April. Out of these, I have read The Glass Castle and Between Shades of Gray which were both wonderful. I too need to read Where'd You Go Bernadette. Have you read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society?? I LOOOOVED this book and I just watched it on Netflix yesterday. It was fantastic!

I think I've now read all of Shirley Jackson's novels and short stories and I even read a lecture or speech she gave, also her biography called "Private Demons". You're in for a great read with "We Have Always Lived in the Castle".---"The Little Stranger" was very good and I think could be made into a movie that is true to the original novel. I hope that has happened.--"My Cousin Rachel" sounds like a winner though I think I might steer clear of Rachel at a family reunion!

I’m with you April, so many good books and films to watch! Overwhelming! I NEED to read My Cousin Rachel so I can watch the movie too. I’m reading Crazy Rich Asians now and enjoying it so I can catch that movie before it leaves theaters!

There's a wonderful new adaptation of Picnic At Hanging Rock on BBC at present. I'm admitting that I hadn't the patience to wait and read the book first.

Yes! I've read Ready Player One and I thought it would not be for me. I am not into videogames at all. But still I liked it. Also because of the movie and music references. It was surprisingly enjoyable. I have not seen the movie yet. I'm hesitant, because I don't really like the video game animations much.
I loved the Glass Castle a lot, though it was not an easy read. The film, meh, not so much, the emphasis was different and I think they made some debatable choices in the script. Read the book, skip the movie and watch Captain Fantastic instead. Similar story, much better movie.
Last month I read My Cousin Rachel. I liked the book and I think I might watch the movie at some point. But I don't like watching it close after finishing the book, especially because it has some sort of mystery. I think I wait a bit til it is not so fresh in my mind anymore. Picnic at Hanging Rock is now on my tbr, since I stumbled upon the trailer. I might pick that one up next.

I will definitely go see A Simple Favour,one of my favorite actresses in it,Blake Lively and i saw The Meg yesterday and didn't know that was based on a book!
