I find cutting with the die facing upwards helps some way to gettting a cleaner cut from more intricate dies.

How is it that the cut paper doesn't get stuck inside the die? I have a lot of intricate Sizzix dies and the cut paper gets stuck inside the die.

Like you, I thought I had to have the dies cut into the metal shim. After watching videos, I got confused because people were saying different things. I am now confident to go ahead and use my new flat shim properly. Thank you Kristina.
