That's it! That's what I always thought it was annoying. It is funny once and it is convenient when you say you do it on purpose, but that's a lie and worse when you do it while recording a cover (the first YYZ after Neil's passing).
Btw this has nothing to do with MM: is it his Ego, the fact that you can't self-entitle of being Peart's drumming heir and mess with tempo out of mood or boredom.

Also I saw some live shows on YT, in which He and his group of Primadonnas have to pause 2-3 times per song, because everybody reasons like him, everybody has his own tempo and it is not a nice thing to listen to, especially while you cover a band that you have left.
On the other hand, I remember one of the most heart warming Live moments, when something went awry and the three of them (JP, JM, MP) went on no matter what, in the triangle position, close one another AND keeping the tempo..

From a fan perspective: what you'd say it sucks about MM playing finally free, that is messing with time signature but staying on tempo, that is actually fun, especially when you improvise "out of mood", not because you are bored.. sure, it is harder to follow than speeding or slowing, as it is DT compared to Taylow Swift 😏

Ps: I always watch your contents and your points of view and I understand it and often agree, but this is the smoking gun of what I always thought and not my paranoia 😅

I too share a degree of contempt for this song at concerts, but I swear one time I heard Mike singing “Pull my finger, pull my finger, pull my finger I gotta fart…” doing backups.😂❤

I never touched a drum stick in my life but following a click seems like a limit, especially in prog or jazz. The freedom combined with the obrigatory sense and feeling for the timing is something so incredible for music.

When MP left, DT's soul went with him. He brought out the most artistic side of the band, whereas it was all virtuoso playing after his departure. At this point I'm ok with discography, I just wanna see them play live with him lol.

At least he can control his tempo. Every drummer I've ever played with inevitably ends the song faster than it started.

And THAT is music. I’ve seen DT live 3 times with Mike Mangini and it was quite boring because machines could have played the same. On the recent concert, there was a certain chemistry back on stage and I enjoyed that so much.

Having a band that follows you instead complaining on tempo - thats A mature band
