I think physicalists are just: not conscious. Like, their brain is processing and emotions are happening and stuff, but the lights are not on inside, after that. That would perfectly account for their arguments. If I were a p-zombie, I would be thinking, feeling, and responding exactly like they do.

Identity Theory has some problems. Let's suppose that electrical activity does have feelings. OK, how does the electrical activity communicate its feelings? How did the information about the purely inner experience of electrical activity, translate into an expression? To give an analogy, it's like saying that your CPU has feelings about being a CPU. However, CPUs only execute programs, and the programs do whatever it is that they are told to do. Your calculator, for instance, doesn't start communicating it's internal feelings of electrical activity, into messages showing up on the 8-pin output display. There would have to be some causal line between the electricity having feelings, and then an altercation to activity. And it wouldn't do to simply write a program that says, "print('I feel very happy right now.')" to give us any sense that what it feels like to be a CPU, is "very happy" when that program executes. Identity theory posits that electromagnetics has an "inner feeling," but this inner feeling is purely a dangler. It has no path of communication with the outside world. It is all perfectly constrained by external universal law. Identity theory is essentially a form of epiphenomenalism. But that can't be right, because there is some path of interaction between the dangler, and the material world.

There's only hard problem of conciousness from the assumption matter and a physical world are objective facts and not mental interpretations of an apparent separate world

So you want to demonstrate the existence of consciousness?
Its pretty easy : invent an undisputed “axiom” no.0, saying “consciousness exists.” …

Well , if we are Here for this lifetime , This is such a brief window to Learn what consciousness is .

This could be a Dream that the Wet brain Has .

You may have never lived a lifetime at all . The Wet brain has to Dream .

Therefore all is Dreaming brain .

Belief is a transient condition. It is like a train station along the way to an unknown destination, accompanied by the acknowledgment that each station carries just that very disclaimer, "Destination Unknown." Hubris is a corrupted belief that one can divine the ultimate with one's physical brain, or that he has already done so. That is, to wander and explore each station, reading all the signs except the one that says, "Destination Unknown", and fashioning a dogma (i.e., religion) from a fundamental error: the denial of the limitations of the physical brain. More specifically, it is to deny oneself, and worse, other humans, the enjoyment and appreciation of each stop along the way, its beauty, the very gifts of life, by being excessively absorbed with signs posted by other fools. By all means, read, seek, but don't forget to live and to wonder.

Looking carefully into the description of what dr. Eben Alexander experienced, he was concious traveling to what he calls heaven while he was in coma; his brain was completely destroyed cell by cell.
However, there is some baffling, frustrating and unclear points about his description.
First...he said that he was conscious as an observer but he was unconscious about himself and his family on earth; he didn't remember anything about what he had experienced back on earth.
According to his book, Proof of Heaven, he didn't even recognize who he himself was or people around him including his sons when he got back from coma.
It was only after a few weeks later when he got his normal brain function back that he started recognizing his family members and getting the knowledge back that he had gotten here on earth.

Of course, he was amnesiac from the damage by the bacterial infection...but if we should be conscious beyond our brain, don't we have to know who we are, at least in heaven, if not on earth where we might be under the influence of physical body like brain?
It would be so frustrating if my mom didnt recognize me in heaven.

If anybody has an idea or answer to this, please let me know. I will really appreciate it.

Does Consciousness require a radical explanation. No. Nargajuna (150-250) and Shankara (788-820) already explained that Consciousness is all there is, in IT's infinite projections within itself, AS Itself. For "explanations' access Samadhi Movie parts 1-3. For a direct experience of Consciousness "In-Itself" we need to transcend the realm of mind altogether, since the Matrix and all of the headsets in "Ready Player One" are mere contraptions with no basis in Ultimate Reality. No problem. Access "Mahamritunjaya mantra - Sacred Sounds Choir" and listen to it for 5 min per day for at least two weeks. In due time you will experience the state of Samadhi in which Pure Consciousness reveals Itself as the Self. (and everything in the universe).

Two points; if consciousness is so important, where was it for 14 billion years? No evidence.
2nd, if we drop consciousness as a thing and see it as a label on a process, what’s so hard about it?
I think Carrol is right on. And the Dave at the end. The narrator has admitted, he wants to live forever and wants to believe in God. This shows a bias which is vulnerable to except hunches and answers which sound good over argument.
There is deep motive to raise consciousness to a higher value and a reason to want it to be a thing. Just as we believe in souls and eternal life, free will and other childhood wish fantasies.
We are too sophisticated now for religion, so we believe in a magic consciousness soul thing, to prove our desired escape.

You can not "explain" consciousness, you have to experience consciousness, it is "nothing" and "everything".
A Dog can not read or write, a Human being can not understand that nothing is everything.

Consciousness is no illusion but the sensation that consciousness is something more that neuroscience, physics and psychology is. If "radical "means something more that physics then no radical explanation is required. However, that is not quite the end of the story. Consciousness does not need quantum theory, but quantum theory requires consciousness. The role of the conscious observer in quantum physics tells us that scale reductionist is not fundamental. Materialism is not wrong but idealism also plays its role in understanding reality.

No, it isn't. To anyone who understands Evolution, it is exceedingly obvious that the brain would develop an imagination that allowed it to test future occurrences and events, new ideas for our tactics and responses. It would constitute the greatest possible maximally useful and very most optimum survival trait of all time!! Imagination IS what consciousness IS!!

Is it possible that some people have more consciousness than others? I find it difficult to understand how some people don't see the problem. The huge distinction. Maybe like some people lack visual imagery (no minds eye) , some people have dimmer consciousnesses? They feel less? This is all so strange.

It seems fundamental, like charge, spin, etc. Tononi in giving examples of being conscious, went exclusively with vision, 'things I experience seeing." This seems a meh indication of being on the wrong track. After all, it's not "I see therefore I am" ... it's "I experience therefore I am." Going for the gimme "what I see" isn't penetrating the issue.

So much of the debate around this seems to presume, "Consciousness really shouldn't be here. How did it come about?" We don't really do that for anything else, do we? Atoms shouldn't be here, spin shouldn't be here, charge shouldn't be here, magnetism shouldn't be here, etc. We don't know why any of it is here. Why single out consciousness as a great mystery? Everything is.
