Ian Paice - Deep Purple - Tour Kit Rundown

People always go on about a 14" deep bass drum being better (which I agee with ) and then they have 16" deep floor toms??? Why aren't floor toms 16/10 and 18/12?

It's PS3 on the bass drum by the look of it.

Too bad the audio is so terrible. Ian is an amazing drummer. He’s only a month or so younger that Bonham was. Imagine if Bonham was still alive, he’d could at be playing today, like Paice. BTW, that looks like a Powerstroke 3 or 4 on the bass drum, not a Pinstripe.

When I see Ian Pace has a time keeper mounted on his high hat I know I need one even if occasionally!

I never liked the sound of Ian's snare drum, it sounded like can to me live and in the studio. The only time I liked it was on the album "Perfect strangers". Otherwise, he is one of my favorite drummers ever.

Very strange sound...both must be taken a balloon filled with Helium before this Interview 😅..anyway Ian paice is one of the greatest no doubt and a kind person too. A purple fan 😊

An absolute legend. LOVE his playing . Been playing 45 years and grew up in Chicago playing Blues and Jazz.

I still like his early Deep Purple size kit the best, one tom over the bass drum and two floor toms.

There is just something about the sound of those 2002 cymbals. Warm and rich sounding. I've always played Zildjian, but every time I hear those, I want a set. Mmm, mmm!!

My favorite Deep Purple song is burn. I just loved that song from the first day I heard it, when it came out! Deep Purple was my first hard rock progressive rock band!

My favorite Ian Paice setup is the 5 piece kit with "double" cymbal stand for the ride and crash on top - like Made in Japan :D Thanks to Ian for many inspirationel years.

The bass drum head looks more like a 'Powerstroke' clear than a 'Pinstripe' . I'am happy to see Ian in good shape !

There is sound problems in this. It´s sounds like you are in a pool when you speak... Under water.. Strange sound. Or some digital error...

Btw, not a pinstripe on the batter side of his kick. Its clearly a powerstroke 3, as you can see by the double stripes and internal muffling ring. 😊

My drumming hero from the age of 14, which was 1970. I hope that I pass away before he does, I shall be in bits if he goes before me!

You watch Ian play, and regardless of the "odd" configuration of his drum set, you can't help but notice Ian has great technique. Elbows in close to the body, and it is all about wrist action to get the job done. Which this man has done quite well, and continues to do so. And with a last name like that of course you must play Paiste cymbals! lol Ian Paice Rocks!

A one of a kind drum outfit. For one, Ian is a lefty. I always found that fascinating. The other thing is how Ian has a Buddy Rich/old school sensibility, with the 26" shallow bass drum and no rack tom-tom on the left side of the bass drum. God forbid, it would get in the way of the low mounted ride cymbal. ~ A Buddy Rich thing....Even his finish choice is old school.
When I heard the "made in Japan" album in the early 70's, I could hear Ian's rudimental approach to snare drumming. I knew he was listening to Buddy.

I saw Ian I'm Hamilton Ontario years ago. Ian was flawless and a real joy to watch him play. It was a total privilege.
