As usual, it’s good to know that I always have the shitty copies of everything. Don’t understand how or why I even enjoyed listening to them all those years.
ОтветитьI've got a very very clean US press, it sounds fine to me, i haven't heard anything else other than the grundman so I don't know what I'm missing, I might keep it that way 😉
For those who don't have a million dollar stereo in a half a million dollar room just get all the Reissues, they're fine
i got the 3 u pressing, it says its a first uk press on discogs,so how can i get 2u pressing
in the first place? if it is the same on discogs.
Cool...i got the first U.K pressing and the German pink one...i guess im covered...
ОтветитьStrange..An album with lots of pigs in it.🤣
ОтветитьWhile I've not heard those pressings, I do clearly recall my new vinyl album, and it was very clear sounding, despite the cracks and pops. Fast forward to the CD and it was muddy, with plenty of hiss. Every subsequent vinyl I've had falls short of the original that I had. It's among my fav's, and I'd be thrilled to find a "good version".
ОтветитьWouldn't that be something if Chad could get his hands on the master & see if he could work his magic on a new UHQR release, now that would be impressive.
ОтветитьAnimals is my favorite Pink Floyd album 🐕🐖🐑
ОтветитьOr Buy It On CD then you don't have to worry about the sound of a needle dragging over the vinyl - also you can listen to it all the way through without having to turn it over.
ОтветитьAccording to the Vernon Fitch UK discographies page, the A-2U / B-2 matrix was stamped on both the first and the second issues. The first issue included stamper numbers all the way up to A-5 / B-7 so the numeric order is not very useful here. The only way I know how to differentiate the second issue (UK) is the deep pressing ring in the label, which indicates it was manufactured at Orlake in Essex. By the time the third issue comes on line there is a barcode on the rear cover. Harry Moss (HTM) cut at least some of the lacquers for the first three issues, although I don't know if his mastering choices were consistent throughout the run.
ОтветитьHi Mike! Could you do a shootout on the pressings of Big Star's "#1 Record" ? I have read they are not all created equal and want to know which one is worth getting.
ОтветитьAnother great album review. I really appreciate these videos as they have probably saved me hundreds of dollars.
Being a huge fan of David Bowie, Rush and Genesis. I hope to see a review from one of those bands.
I hope you and your family are doing well and have a Merry Christmas.
Could you do "Wish You Were Here" next please?
ОтветитьIs sounds the best?
ОтветитьI bought the 2016 remix vinyl and I can honestly say it’s the worst pressing of any record I’ve bought in 45 years of record purchases. The mix has Water’s bass way too low in parts of Dogs compared to the copy I have from the early 80’s and what’s worse is the distortion on Pigs (TDO) on the right channel. This is on two different copies I recently purchased with one being much worse than the other.
ОтветитьConfused, in the UK copies
There's a a2u b2u first pressing, correct?
Other's found had a2u b3u is that the 2 pressing? PLEASE HELP! THANKS!
Have the first us copy mint, but just bought the UK AU2 BU2 looking forward to making a comparison. If better I'll be selling the US copy.
ОтветитьColored vinyl gets a really bad rap in my opinion. Maybe it was more of an issue with older records...
ОтветитьLove these comparison vids Mike please do alot more ' you do them perfect
ОтветитьPlay the speakers?
ОтветитьI have a dead quiet US first pressing (mine) and a UK first that has some noise but is more lively.
Wonder how the 2022 version will fare
Goes to show you that a real original pressing still kicks ass
ОтветитьThe record is pink because of the Pigs, a central theme of the album. C'mon, Mike ;)
ОтветитьI’ve got the 2016 Bernie Grundman cut that you talk about. It’s marked “Made in The EU”. I’m not sure but I think that means that it was actually pressed in either Germany, Ireland or The Netherlands. It’s definitely not a French pressing. It sounds excellent.
What about the new 2022 remix & remaster? Any thoughts?
Because this album was recorded at their Studio not Abbey Road like previous albums .
ОтветитьCan You stop talking BS one day , ?
ОтветитьI'll be curious how the 2018 remix compares with these others.
ОтветитьI love these reviews and I've noticed you're right on the money. I found a near mint UK on discogs so I snapped it up. Can't wait to compare it to the latest hires digital from Qobuz through my tube dac! Hope I have better luck than I have getting a decent RL Zeppelin 2. The one I paid way too much for on Ebay was graded vg+ but had skips and even jarring distortions but yeah...could tell how much it kicks ass though. Have a much cheaper RL on one side German I hope is more playable coming and a not too expensive canadian I read was decent. I gave way about 500 albums 25 yrs ago as I replaced with cds but recently started buying a few special albums and you are a great help! Vinyl seems way overpriced and I think I can get the best mixes cheaper or even better on digital sometimes (ex. I suspect dcc gold Doors debut may be better than recent AP 45 RPM cause AP didn't use original tapes and DCC disc is an earlier remaster from original). I don't see the point in digital vinyl and for that reason, I merely dabble in it these days but its great fun searching for the best copies and telling myself all the albums I'd bought in the 80's were probably just inferior later generations anyway makes me feel better, but damn...I had complete a alot of the floyd and all zeppelin and countless other best of classic rock
Ответить🏭🐷🐕🐑Mike you’re a bass head lol. I have that French copy and it’s got plenty, plenty of bass! And also sounds amazing. You seem to always need something that thumps the roof off the house 😂
ОтветитьBlu ray version is far better than any of the vinyl version sout there, by a street mile.
ОтветитьI think the muddy sound is a part of the overall art. The Floyd mixed this themselves with the help of Andy Jackson at their new studio at Britannia Row. Because of this I think that the sound was very intentional.
ОтветитьYou should hear the eight track version which I also had upon its release in 1977.
Animals was in the first batch of CD’s that I bought in 1985 along with Aja, Physical graffiti, Born To Run and Captain Fantastic.
Thoughts on the 2018 remix pressed this year (2022)?
ОтветитьAre you going to make a comparison with the recently released 2018 remix? Thanks.
ОтветитьThe audio in this video kept cutting in and out? I am watching it on an old 2010 plasma TV
ОтветитьIt's a great album but what's that got to do with the price of rice in China?
ОтветитьDon’t know what this guy is on about. Animals is not a bad recording , just not as hifi as others. Big subwoofer action out of a sub from vinyl? Wat? Plenty of bass on my French pink vinyl copy. It is in a blank pink cover though, so don’t know if it’s the same pressing as shown here.
ОтветитьThis is completely irrelevant since the release of the 2018 version. You should delete this!
ОтветитьAnimals was made at the rise of punk movement and heavy rock. I guess you can see that reflected on the rough effect and lyrics of this album. As you can see the same effects of 80’s sound on Radio K.A.O.S
ОтветитьSurprise, I just checked my old copy and it's a 3U. Scouring my collection now for more gems I might have.
ОтветитьWhat an amazing band, and certainly one of the greatest albums.
ОтветитьYou look like the drummer of The Killers
ОтветитьPink copy..not sure why?😂😂😂😂 I could guess😅😅😅😅
ОтветитьIt's muddy on purpose. It enhances the darkness of the album. Brilliant if you ask me.
Many bands wouldn't adopt this "muddy dark" sound until Metal bands did it in the eighties.
Many people listen to "vinyl" in general because of the nostalgic crackle. Many don't listen to vinyl for quality of sound. Unless you have a 30, 000-dollar system.
Old turd with his big speakers.
ОтветитьI love Animals, my favorite Floyd album. There are tons of matrix codes for the first UK pressing. I'm sure they ended up making a few lacquers but they should all sound very similar. They're all first pressings. Even most of them use the 2u lacquer on side A... what Mike says is inaccurate. If only the first lacquer made a first pressing then we wouldn't have very many of those would we?😂
ОтветитьIt's the guitar solo on Dogs for me
ОтветитьSold my japan press because I think it sounded dull, glad I was not crazy
ОтветитьAbbey Road is the difference...
Ответить
