I read the ancients moved them across the Mediterranean suspended and submerged between two ships, this way the obelisk is bouyed up by a force equal to the weight of the water it displaces.

it's nice to hear some possible answers about these things. the other channels just leave it at "we don't know how they did it and we probably never will". I'd kind of think the Egyptians (or pre Egyptians or whatever older culture) would use slightly more advanced techniques, though. Considering they were the ones even quarrying the biggest stones. The techniques used probably don't require super amazing unknown hi tech. But the biggest stones are at the bottom of the structures. Doesn't logic clearly dictate the the older cultures did more :)

You are merely explaining a means of primitive transportation. The builders of Egypt did it with multiple obelisks and structures and they had FUNCTION they connected with meaning you will never be able to imagine in your mini-dimensional views of the Universe.
