How I got my FIRST MARKETING JOB in Tech | Non-coding tech job making six figures

This is super helpful. I am actually making a career switch. My degree is in marketing but I never got an opportunity to intern. I‘be spent the last few years working in different fields but nothing felt right. I took a lap of faith and completed a digital marketing certification to add to my resume. Now I’m looking into digital marketing positions.

This video definitely helped me I feel like I can use my journalism/public relations degree for digital marketing. I’m learning to code and a few other things through my tech program.

As a long time Marketing Hiring Manager at a Fortune 500 company, I want to add a few things here to help all those watching this video get marketing interviews and job offers easier so you can know exactly what us hiring managers and recruiters want to see from you on your resume and hear from you in your interview.

But first, BIG shout out to Bri!!!! What a great video demonstrating that if you have the will, you can really make your dreams come true and get that job and live that life you really want. I mean to go from 49k to over 6 figures! Love the advice you give for people who are trying to break into the industry as it’s great to see first hand success stories like yours :)

1. Know what type of role you want based on your interests - There’s tons of different roles in this industry. Some you’ll hate, and some you’ll love. Before applying, figure out what Marketing role you’ll be happy in.
2. Know WHAT WORK EXPERIENCE will get you Hired - Now that you know what type of job you want, look at the job postings and see what work experience companies constantly ask for for that role.
3. Having the Right Work Experience Means EVERYTHING to us hiring managers - Certification courses aren’t a substitute for work experience, yes certifications can fill in gaps for knowledge you lack, but unfortunately these still don’t prove you can do the job. But there are easy ways to get it fast.
4. How to Get Work Experience (Solutions)- You can get it on-demand through JobPrepped or if you go the internship route, just make sure you’re getting the work experience mentioned in step 2 otherwise this won’t be a good use of your time.
5. Your Resume - Spend 90% of your focus on your work experience section and matching what the job is asking for and don’t take up too much space on resume design as us hiring managers pretty much solely care about your work experience section.
6. Networking - Don’t do this too early! Make sure you fix your resume/profiles for the job you want before doing outreach so that you don’t get ghosted by recruiters.
7. Interview - focus on the value you’ll bring and specific digital marketing strategies that you’ll implement on how you’ll help our company grow.

Bri, Thanks for the info. My niece is is only 15yr going on 30, and interested in Marketing. but for some reason, she wanted to go to Law school . I told her to really think what her end goal is and go that direction. But I will certainly share this video with her.
