The War Goddesses of the Ancient Celtic Peoples

Perhaps the most well-known example of this is Brigantia, the Goddess of the Brigantes, a powerful British tribe. In Gaul, there are many instances of Matronae and Matres dedications which featured by-names that indicated they were being worshipped as the Great Mother ancestresses of the tribe.
