About those 6.3V transformers you want to use in your project to lower the 240V to safe levels: those, or in fact any transformer of this kind introduce reactive power losses and cos φ at the secondary is lower than at the primary. Not sure if that will make any difference for the AD chip you want to feed through those, but from what I understand, you want your measurements to be synchronized with the mains voltage. The phases of the measured voltage will be a little off. Also, those transformers might need to be picked and matched, I doubt they have been precisely wound as they are apparently off the shelf cathode heaters for vacuum tubes with +/- 10% tolerance.

Respect and yes I agree, Elon is really building a fleet of taxi's with minimal maintenance and no drivers. Another brilliant business move because the cars will be paid for through the lease program and making pure profit when they enter into Tesla Network, and as you said will not be dumped onto the market depreciating new vehicle prices.

I really appreciate what you guys are putting together and thoroughly engineering and explaining. It is a generous thing and allows for anyone willing to put 2 and 2 together could benefit as long as they're willing diy. I look forward to learning from whatever you guys do next

If there were to be a catastrophic thermal runaway, would the safe get red hot, melt, or stay intact?

I think I look forward to your show more than any other. Someone told me that 240v ac was really +400 to -400 passsing 0v 50 t0 60 times a second. This gives u a chance to unclench 50-60 times a second that u dont get with DC?

You are probably deep into making your own solution now but I hope you evaluated eGauge Jack. Much more of a engineer’s tool than Sense. A lot of work has already gone into it and the data is available via Modbus and BACnet. A display sever is also built into the device. Biggest downside is when measurement points are over a 100ft or so apart and multiple units (easily share data) become necessary. I do not work for them, only a customer.

@Jack Rickard
While watching the video, I took some notice of the internals of your "in progress" PowerSafe/100 (PS/100) it looks like you all have taken precautions to avoid lateral movement of the battery packs and inverter, however, I don't see anything for the restriction of vertical movement. Perhaps you all haven’t gotten to that part yet but to make the shipping trip to New York, let alone to the island, the battery packs, inveter and all of the shelves need anchoring down! Maybe you will have bolts that will come up through the sidewall mounted angle brackets that go through the "fiber grate" and will fasten and anchor the shelves and then have some form of retaining straps fastening the batteries and inverter to the shelving?

Also, I was wondering if you all put a rubber gasket or sealant between and around the mounting plate of the cast metal wheels and the bottom of the PS/100 before fastening things together?

Just some thoughts as I watched your very interesting, as usual, video!

Thanks.

So how to make such inverter off grid. I need a 400v inverter to work with my model 3 battery but i dont want to grid tie cause detroit thomas edison has made it not finacially worth it. Low buy back rates. Really inverter to inverter? To generate the wave yo sync to. Help

Giving the the Model S batteries are still fairly expensive, could your PowerSafe 100 be built with one set of batteries (2S1P) and more batteries could be added later as needed?

Help, please! “Autonomy Day” at Tesla. Jack, you’re the only person I trust to genuinely understand what was presented by Elon and these other fellas. Furthermore, nobody comes close to your communication skills. Please, could you break down Autonomy Day for us? While clearly brilliant, has Elon gotten ahead of himself? Manufacturing capacity and improvements for the batteries and the vehicles; this first, no? This is Cart before the horse, no? (no pun, not trying to be clever here). This presentation was kinda frightening. Thank you.

I considered using Tesla packs for my offgrid home, instead opted to string one-hundred 1200AH Nickel-Iron cells in series for a 120V nominal battery bank. Edison cells will last a century and millions of cycles without any degredation. Chang-Hong is the world's largest manufacturer of NIFE cells. I negotiated a $450 per unit price.
