Firing Derek Shelton does nothing to address the real issues within the Pirates organization. They should have gotten rid of GM Ben Cherington as well. The guy has done nothing to bring in MLB level talent to the organization. The team is full of role players (back ups from other MLB teams) other then Skenes, Reynolds and Cruz. Why? Because the Pirates are CHEAP!! Besides being able to pay a role player lower money, the pitching staff,ither then Skenes and Keller is filled with middle inning relief pitchers. Why?? Again, because the Pirates are CHEAP and middle relievers come in at a lower price. Just a poorly run MLB organization.

Ben has never been a good GM. He rode the coat tails of Epstein in Boston and apparently learned nothing. Pirates should go out and get Epstein to come in and build a championship Roster. Makes the most logical sense.

Shelton was terrible. Cherington is worse.

Cherington fired Shelton in an attempt to save his own job. Until Cherington is gone, nothing is going to change because Kelly still works for Cherington.

Cherington shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the June draft. Kelly will have no input in the draft....a 10 year old with a PC will be able to do the job. Change is needed from Bradenton through the "Big" team. The insanity continues.

Changing manager right now I understand, even if it's main value turns out to be more PR than anything else. Changing GM right now, not so much. If the whole organization needs to be scrutinized from top to bottom, and potentially big changes made, you don't do that right now in early May. Nutting is ultimately responsible for all of this.

I feel very confident that the new manager will be able to better deploy a bunch of .170 hitters.
