Mfw half of my tattoos I got were because I thought they looked cool… “Meaning” is also so arbitrary. The fact that I am able to express myself and modify my body how I like is already meaningful enough, I dont need lore for every tattoo I have 😭

Tattoos independently evolved in each separate places with each having different meanings. Some use it as status symbols, religions reasons, or even initiations.

Why people get tattoos ultimately just comes down to individual choices.

To me, tattoos are cool stickers. A few of my stickers are flash designs that I already wanted in one form or another. My 5th tattoo is the one with meaning. My others are cool art that suits my personality.

I have one that’s a bug I think is neat, some that are just random florals because I like them, and some that are intensely symbolic, and I love them all, the ones that meant “less” when I got them mean so much to me now, they’re part of my identity and the way I feel at home in my body!

I think some people may have interpreted saying “tattoos don’t need to have meaning forever, just now” as “impulsively get tattoos! You only have to like it now! Who cares that it’s there forever?” Which isn’t what you meant but how it sorta came off watching the original video. I could definitely see somebody walking away with that interpretation.

anyone can get any tattoo for whatever reason they want as long as it's on their own body and they're willing to own up to the consequences of it if they don't like it later. If YOU only want to get a tattoo that has meaning, that's on you. But don't police other people on that?? It's none of your business??

The meaning of my tattoos have grown with me. I only have two.
Between my secret semicolon (it's a fish jumping out of water and a crescent moon) and my dragon foot filled with Russian blue teapot flowers; they've changed from "breaking boundaries" and "remembering beauty" to "surprising myself and remembering I'm still here under the same sky" and "there's beauty in surprising places" it'll probably change and develop more as the years go on. It'll age like fine wine lol

And the dragon foot was a remembrance tattoo for my beaded dragon Aladar

A tattoo is for life but it doesn't need meaning. My tattoos have meaning but that doesn't mean everyone's need to. Sometimes people get tattoos literally just because they look cool and that's great! It's their body.

In all honesty I think the people who get them just because they look cool are less likely to regret it as there's nothing attached to it. No person who could later become an asshole, no interest that could later fade or become something you don't like, etc.

While your taste in art might change it's hard to hate something you got just because it looked cool. It is easy to hate a tattoo that has meaning if that meaning becomes sour

The meaning of my tattoos is that I thought it was sick at the time.

A friend of mine made a tattoo of a crow on top of a magic book with two dragons on side he said a really deep meaning like "Raven represents the wise man (god) that has knowledge of the future and past of my life (the book) that might not make sense to me but it doesn't needs to, while the dragona represents my the angels and family that always protected me" after some time he proceeded to say "To be honest, I invented a meaning because I was too drunk to know why I was doing a tatto in the first place, lucky that it looks cool". I think that's a bit concerning, but it looks cool

Meaningless tattoos are just as valid as sentimental tattoos. If you want a tattoo, you get a tattoo. Yes definitely give it some thought before committing but it doesn’t have to be some heavy profound type shit to be worthy of putting on your body. Your body is YOUR body. Not anyone else’s to decide…

I don't have tattoos and never think about them. I dont feel the desire to put pictures or text on my skin. Reminds me of billboard advertising or graffiti.
