Built-to-rent communities show up in Indiana as home prices remain unattainable for many

In Brownsburg, one of Indiana's fastest-growing communities, builders are working every day to keep up. But in one neighborhood under construction right now, not a single home is meant to be sold. All 165 will soon be available to rent.

"This is filling a gap," said Justine Massonier, senior vice president of Buckingham Companies.

The Indianapolis-based real estate company is known for its apartment projects, but is partnering with Onyx+East to build what's known as a "built-to-rent" community at U.S. 136 and Northfield Drive in Brownsburg.

"People want to have a single-family home, but they may not be able to afford it, so we really looked for a site that can cater for that need," Massonier said.
