In another must-watch episode of Space Time, NSSA hosted five of the nation’s most experienced space leaders for a comprehensive discussion on space acquisition. Moderated by Chris Williams, Chair of our Studies and Analysis Center, panelists included:

General Ellen M. Pawlikowski, USAF (Ret.), Former Commander, Air Force Materiel Command

The Honorable Jeff K. Harris, Former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space and Director, National Reconnaissance Office

Douglas L. Loverro, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy

Major General Donald G. Hard, USAF (Ret.), Former Director of Space and Strategic Defense Initiative Programs

Mr. Thomas Conroy, CIA (Ret.), Former Program Manager, National Reconnaissance Office

Following the publication of our recent report entitled, "Acquiring Space Capabilities with Agility and Discipline at the Speed of Relevance," and the Department of the Air Force's report to Congress entitled, "Alternative Acquisition System for the United States Space Force”, the distinguished panelists addressed complex issues related to space acquisition practices. The stand-out team of panelists, with over 200 years of combined experience, tackled key topics including:

Analysis of findings and recommendations from the NSSA paper and the Air Force report to Congress

Identification of key next steps to advance space acquisition reform and modernization

Development of an acquisition system that empowers program managers, focuses on mission success, and

Methods for establishing a highly trained, well educated, and appropriately incentivized acquisition workforce.

The discussion provided context and next steps for the creation of a modern service branch prepared to protect and defend in the next era of warfighting.
