This is the most depressing thing in the world. Music isn’t even worthwhile in and of itself anymore, you have to be a content creator to have it reach people is seemingly what I’m getting out of this video so far. Streaming and the importance placed on going viral has done so much damage to the quality of the music that breaks through into the mainstream. Who the hell has the time to do all of this by themselves if they aren’t already wealthy enough to not have a full time job to work?

To everyone making excuses. You can’t bring those with you when you die so you might as well try to do something you enjoy before you go. Why work to just die and be forgotten in time?! Create music and let your name go down in history, plus. Your family can listen to your work when they feel like hearing your voice or your music

I love your videos...but with all this work - how does one find time to actually make music? 🙃 and making one song every 2-3 months is just too little actual music making....for me 🙈

HI Damian, thanks for the help in organizing the life of us DIY musicians. Regarding pre saves, i've had people tell me they're put off when the pre save link asks for permission to get data and modify things in your spotify account (which is obvious it has to but still). I think Spotify is working on having them be directly on Artists,(Countdown pages) which would be much better. Cheers!

This is way to many steps. just get out so the people can see you. go live so the people can hear you. Post post post and apparently pay for some adds and make alot of videos surrounding the song. it's a thing about the number 7. if someone hears the sound 7 times without noticing, it naturally starts to register. I wasted a whole hour watching this man talk in circles.

Honestly i hate how long you made the video, im 16min in and i havent had 1 piece of new or good information, you just regurgitating whats common knowledge over and over, and this is exactly what i dont want my music marketing to be, even if you had good information later in the video, you already lost me trying to extend this video as long as possible, i mean why do you have to rumble for idk how many minutes about having everything ready like a month before release, everybody knows that and even if they dont, they get the point after one explanation, this era of milking content and algorithm submission is depressing

In Australia we suffer from tall poppy syndrome, the majority of ‘Ausrap’ support pages and radios only play music of a certain ‘image’. I’m doing my best to build my audience my self but they gate keep the wider audience. Gonna follow your plan for new release every step and show them who’s boss 🖤

Ok, so I have 60 tracks which I made and have uploaded to distrokid. Contrary to what you are literally just saying in this vid I release one track every Friday. I'm in my 50's I'm in poor health with minimum budget. I pumping tracks out because I passed away last week and next time they may not be able to bring me back. I just don't want to pass and have my stuff lost locked on a computer. I have not the time nor the know how to 'make content' there will be no remixes or colas as I've sold my studio, im too old and fat to seek fame. I just want to give my 60 tracks to an artist management team in the UK and let them consolidate the platforms so I can leave some sort of legacy. Does anyone do that?

Has anyone come across release plans which aren't centred around Spotify? I've accumulated 4.5m streams but still prioritise Bandcamp/Mailing List/Direct to fan but would love to see what other similar artists are doing

Do record labels nowadays produce this sort of content for you?

I opted to start dropping music on Mondays, I know Friday was always traditional and I use to follow that but after 4 years out of the industry and just being a fan and songwriter. I find that I get disappointed every Friday when there’s nothing good dropping BUT it’s always good when an artist that I like is dropping their album on a Friday and I just get anxious and want to add more new stuff to my library so I search for new stuff Monday-Thursday to see if I missed anything Friday

This is how to build a brand/influencer like social media for artists. I am not saying this will not work, I am saying you will have to keep doing this for the rest of your life to keep it going. This is taking the route of constant algorithm feeding release strategy. Until you make it about the music, everybody will jump in for your lifestyle on socials associated with your brand and the music comes as a medium. Until you make it about the music, you will have to work for it constantly on this for your music to be forgotten in 2 months cuz everybody is just overfeeding on "sugar".
Unfortunately this is what the world has become, patterns and boring music. So the way is feed the algorithms. If you want the people to love you for your music, make it about the music. You can't be average. Cuz there is a million guys doing this. And it is just about time since that "sugar addict" finds a new lifestyle to chew on. Why are we remaking old songs? ;)

Do you advise about copy right issues as far as making my own arrangements of already written songs ?

I built a website as my first step, and joined LANDR for mastering, distro, free software/samples/courses/etc. and after being up for less than a month, it's ranked as one of GoDaddy's top performing sites. Blows my mind. Last I checked the other day, it was 124 visitors in the last 30 days, and ranked 87 / 100 on GoDaddy's performance meter as a top performing site.
