Meaning & Nothingness - Finding Motivation In The Void

You are making a huge amount of assumptions.

This talk about "a true self" sounds like a mumbo jumbo Opera Winfrey conference.

Untrue, some of us are working towards eternity as opposed to some absurd void.

This is a oxymoron, motivation in a void, it's a freaking void.

The larger picture? God exists and we have a purpose and we know what we're doing.

Maslow's pyramids of needs is very nice but I guess your out of luck if you live in grinding poverty.....I'll put my stake on the Resurrection.

Why all do the videos with this subject matter have a monotone narration?

the meaning of life is the warmth from a sweater we knit ourselves... - you find your own meaning in your own chosen purpose, goal, ideology and find your own deeper meaning in the pursuit of that purpose, goal, ideology...

we only have one camera trick that we know how to do

The universe didn't give us a blank page to write on. So much has already been done that has lead to this point. What we can make, or create with this time is sadly very limited

What if there is no self? What if one's sense of self is an illusion? That is what the non dual perspective suggests, that there is and never was a self. There is nothing behind everything. Only a self needs to create meaning and purpose. Once the self is recognized to have never been then the seeking for meaning and purpose evaporates. And that's the truth, that there is no reason or purpose for this apparent universe. And there is no one and nothing behind it. It is all a forever unknowable mystery.

I liked the train metaphor at the end.

I imagine that if life did have an absolute true unarguable meaning, we would have raised against it and said we wanted TO BE FREE.

You are giving too much importance to life. If it were infinite, then it would make sense. But this is a miserable 50-90 years. As pathetic as our brains. This is just the beginning of the journey.
By the last sentence, I mean that our species is only the beginning of really intelligent life. Compared to what we might be, we're just ants for now.

I am so grateful for this channel, these videos make me like I am not alone and my quiet thoughts are not strange and I am part of this wonderful journey called as life with people who think like me ofcourse there is a physical distance but it gives me hope that someday I won't seem like a stranger in this world.

It isn't that none of us matter. It's that we only know YOU matter. Or I really. You may be god. Or I really. You think, there for you are. Or I really. And we only know ourselves(myself) as real. And everyone may be a figment of your(or mine really) imagination. So be a good God, self. And treat your creation with respect.

What a wonderfully absurd planet this is - where at the same time some modern humans are deprived of the basic life needs, first step of Maslow pyramid, have not enough food, water, safety in the piss-pour countries - yet others have not enough freedom, or power over their own lives in dictator-ruled countries - yet others still ponder the meaning of life... It's as if we are totally NOT one, either not one species, or not living on one and the same planet!

And, yeah, sure, rarely do first-world people pondering for meanings think about those who struggle for food and safety everyday, true - BUT, do those who are hungry and persecuted, ever think how hard it must be to live without meanings? Do they?
They have it easy in the meaning department - to survive, to live another day, to outrun enemies, no need for more complex meanings, they cannot have compassion for those that have warm food everyday, but are depressed and find no reason to live.

In the end, it's as if there is a whole bunch of different "humankinds", each having their own problems and no communication between them...
What's strange is this: if we REALLY are one and it's not just a slogan - can it be that solution of different humankinds' problems may lie in them uniting in one humankind and helping each other's problems?

It's mind over matter if you don't mind it doesn't matter
