"New Village", as its name implies, refers to a new village. In the 1950s, the British Government relocated over 500,000 Chinese to hundreds of camps in various locations, following the fight between the Government and the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).
The people only regained their freedom after 12 years of war and isolation. However, the residents chose to stay on in the villages, making the places their permanent homes.
Seventy years on from then, the new generation has gradually replaced the old. Have the humanistic values been passed down through the generations? And how should these old communities sustain amidst rapid development?
