Statement/Question; For a turbocharged engine to work properly, Turbocharger is in need of those exhaust gases to spin blades on shaft, Intern intake blades opposite end therefore are pulling in large amounts of air from COOL intake, after passing through turbo this heated /condesced air is passed through cooler and condesced further before entering cylinder, say my system has one exhaust up pipe to/through EGR Enroute to turbo, .Question; Exactly how is this going to work out by completely blocking off my wasted exhaust gasses for this Main purpose of Turing this Turbocharger to increase the power and efficiency of my diesel?
.
Ofcourse, besides not recirculating
all that soot back through the engine.
.
2007 GMC Classic LBZ
My experience with just about any topic, many are unable to give an accurate diagnosis of what has actually accrued ! Some will say more efficient/power, Others will say the opposite on same engine.

I had a77 cadi, the egr gave car many unstable problems. I removed it and installed a blocking plate( steel) with an egr gasket. Car ran great after that, for years. Improved cold engine performance too. Difference of night and day.

I have a 2010 Focus 1.6 TDCI which keeps losing torque through the gears but as soon as I stop and restart the enging the problem goes away for a few miles and then comes back after several miles. I had the EGR and fuel filter replaced 2 months ago and it cured the problem about 80% but this last 2 weeks it's come back as bad as ever. I know of 2 people who had the EGR software deleted and this cured their problem, they said the engine ran better and the emissions passed the MOTs. My EGR is still under warranty so am taking it back to the garage shortly and will ask him about the option of deleting the software if it happens again.

How funny it is : make your engine inhale dirty low oxygen mixture/soot to run poorly and dirty, in order to make it run cleaner... Like eating your own turds to reduce your environnement impact. Damn, who came with this stupid idea ??

I have no remorses whatsover to put a plate between those stupid planned obsolescence devices and the intake manifold of my cars. F U Greta.

After a full rebuild on my Daewoo Matiz '04 I have seen a great difference in power gain. In addition to that as the car covered 4.000-5.000 km I tried blocking the EGR valve and it feels like the car is breathing again. No stalling, big increase in fuel economy and power at every phase, low and high rpm

You need to tune it out on newer cars or you'll trip a code and you might go into limp mode. How do I know? Because it happened to me doing 110kms. The car lost power and stalled on the highway and I got stuck until I cleared the emission codes

EGR decreases the cylinder temperature by reducing oxygen density. Lower temp = lower NOx but more soot. Engine fluctuates EGR to balance the two. Modern engines are designed with it in mind to also reduce overall engine temperature. Have a truck in my shop with a large chugging EXHAUST leak from the INTAKE manifold because they deleted it and screwed the intake valves. $10K will fix the engine but not the stupidity.

EGR's don't rob horse power. They don't open at idle or wide open throttle. Some engines have water cooled EGR systems. These cause an over heating problem and are often mis diagnosed as a blown head gasket. You can bypass a water cooled system for an air/ air cooled EGR.
Let me know if you need to know anything about EGR systems. I am and L1 Tech and ASE Master Auto.

The egrs/dpf on newer diesels create such a massive carbon footprint do to not only thousands of new parts and mysterious fluids but also destroying the engine at much lower miles than pre diesels. We’ve gone backwards in pollution but at-least our politicians are rich as fuck

Been driving a PD105 for two years with my electronic EGR unplugged, and an open exhaust. I drive past cops, turbo whistles loudly and they don't even look. Haha. They are concerned with sound level in my country, but it's a small diesel with a turbo and it's quiet enough unless I floor it. I'll be adding another turbo in the future. Compound style.

When I do a full overhaul at 400,000km I'll pull the EGR out and weld it. I want to keep the antishudder valve because of the amount of air I pump through and don't want a runaway.

Fact check:
"Function of EGR is to LOWER efficiency?" - are you high? The way PHYSICS works EGR INCREASES efficiency. It doesn't lower engine life - if anything, there's and extension. Agan: that's physics, not politics. In petrol engines EGR actually increases efficiency. In diesels it only reduces emissions somewhat.
"Block off the valvle to improve quality of the vehicle" - another lie. Blocking it does NOTHING in most cases, and actually makes diesel engines knock more. DELETE - somewhat yes, BLOCK - heck no.
"Blocking EGR will return the engine to peak efficiency and less fuel needed to maintain same power" - NO. The way EGR works it DECREASES fuel consumption when engine is under constant load (i.e. driving on motorway). It DOES NOT DECREASE MAX POWER AND FUEL CONSUMPTION WHEN NEEDING MAX POWER. because it's TURNED OFF then. In order to see any gain you have to DELETE IT, but that does any good for older diesels mostly, and it's a minor gain.
"blocking the CO2 re-entering the engine, it gets better power on pistons at lower rpms" - true, of course, but this is because it will use then MORE FUEL.
"(...) this makes manifold, pistons and other components clean" - not really, no. At best it decreases it somewhat, because THE DEPOSITS COME FROM BURNING ENGINE OIL IN CYLINDERS, which comes from PCV (CVS).
"car is more responsive to accelerator pedal" - true, but only in specific situations. And arguably you may not even feel the difference. OLder cars - sure. Newer cars (after 2010) - NO.
"(...) avoids early blocks in DPF and CC" - this is so laughably untrue it's not funny. Think on it - IF WE DO NOT REDIRECT PARTS OF EXHAUST GASES BACK TO THE CYLINDER, WHERE THE "SOOT" IS BURNED, HOW IN THE HELL WE REDUCE DEPOSITS IN DPF? This doesn't compute: with EGR working there is less particulates hitting DPF, so how blocking it reduces particulates hitting DPF?
"(...) incrase NOx and other gases" - Heck, no. if we put more CO2 into the cylinder, then we burn less fuel and produce less CO2 in effect. NOx are slightly different - they come from high pressure in the engine and increased fuel-air ratio. This is why especially diesel PRODUCES MORE NOx naturally (it is, after all compression-ignition engine).
"(...) increase sound and vibration" - IN OTHER WORDS - INCREASE KNOCKING, WHICH IS BAD FOR THE ENGINE.
"(...) decrease Turbocharger lifespan" - yes, drastically.
"burning fuel at higher temperature improves efficiency" - true, but it also increases drastically emissions of NOx, which is very harmful. This is the trade-off with the EGR.
"this makes the engine run hot" - yes and no. IT DOESN'T IMPACT THE WAY ENGINE WORKS WHEN MORE POWER IS NEEDED. Engine will run hotter on lower RPMs and when idle, but not when driving dynamically. Thus the "hot engine running" is a myth or shoddy EGR block/delete work.

So basically you said Jack shit, you need to get your facts rignt, b,ocking the EGR effects a bunch of stuff the only way to do it tune it out tbrkugh the ECU whilst keeping the MAF sensor parameters, oxyven and fue, at the correct levels, if you want your engine to fail prematurely go ahead and block off the EGR I have worked on enough to have seen the results. The simple answer is fit an oil catch can and shorten your service intervals to half of what the manufacturer specifies and don't cheap out on oil and filters thats another recepie for dissaster.
