For those who don’t understand why Trudeau’s GST relief and $250 government rebate are more about winning votes than genuinely helping regular people, here’s the issue: The current Canadian government is operating under a budget deficit. To fund these initiatives, the government may need to borrow more, which could lead to the Bank of Canada indirectly injecting more money into the economy. This can exacerbate inflation, as we observed during the COVID-19 relief payments.

Higher inflation would force the Bank of Canada to raise interest rates to cool down the economy, increasing the cost of living and borrowing for Canadians. In essence, this approach risks creating a feedback loop—a “death spiral”—where short-term relief contributes to long-term financial strain for individuals and the economy as a whole.

I don’t see any accountability from any of the political parties in Canada, it’s spend, spend, spend, tax, tax, tax, debt, debt, debt…. “Politicians are good with giving themselves great pension plans. I believe I heard Poillevre is going to get a $350,000 per year pension which means Trudeau will at least get the same. You don’t hear about a politician taking a cut to their bottom line, while most Canadians are struggling to put gas in their cars and food on their tables. Why do they try and keep average taxpayer’s broke? Politicians continue to add billions to the National Debt. Where do you find out where all of this tax money is being spent and obviously wasted. I went on the Canada government website, but can only find out about very basic accounting info, that is where I believe there is no accountability, why aren’t government’s accountable? When income taxes were implemented back in 1917 it was only a temporary move to help finance the 1st world war, It has now gotten out of control by bad actors who are being lobbied by corporate interests and buddies, that are being awarded big fat over budget contracts. Canada has about the same amount of people as California. Canada is suppose to be one of the wealthier country’s, so where is all of the money going? Why are we being taxed to death, literally? What was Canada doing before taxation, I want to go back to those days, when you could have a roof over your head and food on the table, and a doctor that would actually do something about your health issues. I feel sorry for the young Canadians, that have no hope for the future. What ever happened to work for the people?

I think this is a great idea. Given the Trump win, Canada is facing economic headwinds for 2025. A tax break for December to February can help mitigate expected downturn.
