I loaded gemini on my 8 pro yesterday , and so far im utterly disappointed in the amount of things that did work with the google assistant , that no longer work with gemini , I also looked at the gemini app in the playstore and the reviews , and a lot of them where not glowing at all , but I wanted to try it out for myself .
Looking at some of the image AI features , a lot of that stuff you may rarely use if you are not out taking photos often .
at this stage , im thinking in a week or two I`ll be going back to the old assistant which seems far more capable.

I think Google should've spent more time refining Gemini before using it to replace Google assistant. Also, they spend way too much time on AI when Google should be spending more effort on getting core basics like thermals, battery life, call quality and connectivity right. Its a shame we are almost 4 generations into Tensor and in order for your phone to run smoothly you have to turn off 5g. I'd trade all the gimmicky AI features for improved reliability on basics that matter the most.

I'm glad I got an 8 Pro on sale because I can guarantee that most of these new AI features won't be coming to Pixel 9 in my country. In Depth Tech Reviews already has a review out and his unit is missing a tonne of them.

All these "Pixel 9 exclusive apps".. Google is software locking old devices out of new features to make up for its lackluster hardware improvements. Makes the "7 years of updates" a complete farce.

Gemini is not an adequate replacement for Assistant yet. It cannot do most of the use cases I do with Assistant every day and adds nothing of interest to me. Gemini may be the end of my run with Google phones (going back to the Nexus 5). I want a phone that does not overheat.

Whilst I love the new look of this Pixel, I can't help but think this is more of a Pixel 8 Ultra rather than a Pixel 9 thanks to the almost non-existent upgrades to the G4 chipset and cameras. Also, AI features will probably be released on older pixels too, so not really a great upgrade for pixels this year...

the price for Pixel 9 is very high. it`s not profitable to buy Google and lose 50% reselling after year usage. iphone has much attractive price during reselling. so my choice is iphone but if pixel 9 would be costs like pixel 8 it will be the best choice.

I think at this point I'd pay extra for a phone without AI "features" 🙄 Owning a Pixel 8 Pro for several months, I can't find a legitimate use case scenario for these tools beyond the initial "oh.. that's kinda interesting, I guess". The AI bubble cannot burst soon enough. It's especially egregious considering the amount of power some of these features require and the impact it'll consequently have on the environment. No thanks. Please just stick to making decent hardware design instead of this crap.

Personally I would never buy another Google watch. They have fumbled it too many times. I think I've had two of them and I might have used them for a couple weeks before I gave up because they were essentially useless. When you put so little effort into something you shouldn't be surprised when people aren't interested anymore.

That new weather app looks terrible. I don't need the current temperature number taking up half the screen. And I certainly don't need an AI paragraph to read at the top...just give me the numbers and icons. And bring back froggy!!!

I'll revisit THINKING about switching to a Pixel Pro from Samsung S ultra phone in about 6 years from now, so that will be 2030. Maybe Google will be up to Samsung's level of performance by then.

I have an 8 pro and no you cannot revert to regular Google assistant once you go to Gemini, even though Gemini can't control your smart home devices, which is what I use the voice assistant for quite often

I find all the new features interesting, although there are two that I would like to see on all devices: Gemini in the app overlay and the weather app.

Anyone know if the pixels can draw on a image to create something in the image like the z folds or galaxy ultras can do?

The one feature I still wish Google would adopt from Apple is the animation for scrolling through background running apps. On Apple devices, the apps are stacked behind each other, creating a smooth, cascading effect. In contrast, Android displays the apps side by side, which feels less intuitive to me.After all, they're called background running apps, not side-by-side running apps! It would be great if Google could stack them behind each other like Apple does.Believe it or not, this is one of my absolute favorite features of iOS. I just love the animation when scrolling through the stacked background apps on Apple devices.
