Why is the music loud and in the foreground, and you sound like you are standing 3 rooms away.
The sound mix is not very good. Why have music at all?
This is great. Very helpful Bobby!
ОтветитьMy mistake was using grey pavers as a mow strip or as step stones in my garden. Flowers leaves and mulch (I use pine bark) covered them up making hard for me to find my stable stepping spots. Now I use red pavers.
One problem I've had and other imknow is the rubber pavers not staying in place. They look great for a few days and then they shimmy. I drilled and put landscape stakes through some of mine and that helped. I don't know if rubber pavers are just a gimmick for homeowners or if there are pro tips to get them to stay still.
In some places building code does not allow you to bury your downspouts
ОтветитьI actually really like the last design. I really like the red mulch and the patio
ОтветитьHa! Definitely more than the 10 comments you asked for! Anyways. My yard is a blank canvas. Tearing everything out to make a permaculture/ sustainable landscaping thing. Working with my cousin who’s a certified arborist looking to break into these kind of projects. Short version, need some zone 6 ideas and tips. Sharing your channel with my cousin so we can add your advice to our research. Thank you!
ОтветитьCan't hear you over the music. Forget the music, too busy. Thanks
ОтветитьMy biggest yard mistake was not feeing, weeding or seeding my grass for two entire seasons. I bought the house with luscious, stunning grass and had no idea how to maintain it. I did nothing to it for the past two years and this summer it’s TRASH. Weeds popping up everywhere, bald patches, just a mess all around. When buying a house learn how to maintain your grass. I have a great sprinkler system that runs off an app. I though the grass would take care of itself if I just mowed it, watered it. Nope. It’s just one of those things I was COMPLETELY unaware of how to do. Totally naive. I’m now paying professionals a lot of $$ to fix it up.
ОтветитьWe know where I live that a fence always needs a lot of spaces to allow the wind to pass thru. When I see new solid types of fencing or deck railings I wait with anticipation for the next big rain-wind event which happens several times a month to knock it over. I am never disappointed. People make big changes after about the 3rd time. heheehee I always wonder if they took that magazine they saw that fence & whipped it at the wall of the toolshed.
ОтветитьSome useful information! I think one thing to be careful of is being too negative about other people's gardens. I know you're quite meticulous and you might want things a certain way (which can be good!), but imagine if somoene watched this video and saw a picture of their back yard that they posted on Facebook. It might make them feel bad about their garden.
Anyways: some mistakes we made were to get rid of all the grass and just having all paving :D Wasn't my decision, it was my mother's as she didnt want to maintain it. Also, 20 years ago when we moved into our home we had several trees (I think 8 or 9). My dad got rid of them all and built a big brick wall using some weird engineering bricks. Its ugly. I dont own my own home because housing is too expensive in London and I will NEVER rent out and pay someone elses mortgage - but if I ever do get my own home then I would probably come back to your channel and take some tips :)
Absolutely hate red mulch. Tacky! Love how you coordinate colors, and up the look and appeal. New Englanders have so much brick on walkways. Tradition here, but newer designs are more appealing. Thank you.
ОтветитьI actually really like the "hodge podge" flagstone walkway. Looks organic and natural. But I like British gardens and not really a fan of contrived American style gardens
ОтветитьI agree about the red mulch. It looks terrible but, with some color schemes I could see it looking alright. As for mistakes, I dug a whole for a fire pit, then found out on the next rain storm the area floods making it less than ideal. I also have trouble deciding where things should go in the backyard. Something about how to design a layout could be good.
ОтветитьYou are keeping me from making mistakes!
ОтветитьHate red mulch too. Any advice for trying to visualize when the existing yard you want to change is super busy. So when there are so many things happening you can’t focus on what you can do to change it.
ОтветитьMusic is too loud..
ОтветитьHope the guy who spent all that money on the red mulch yard didn't watch this...
ОтветитьOmg the last picture, not only the ugly red mulch - but too many curves!!
Ответитьmy mistake is trying to do landscaping for almost free. (Life has made me do things cheaply.) Sometimes you have to make do. Anything is better than a front yard full of gravel and mud and junk. Even grass and weeds look better if they're mowed.
ОтветитьArbre vitæ ? Nonono ! Never! No. Don't. I like the rest of all the great advice, though
ОтветитьI would have watched the whole video, but the "background" music is annoying and distracts from what you're trying to convey.
ОтветитьPlease be a bit more clear and explicit in your advice. I feel that you have conveyed generally good sentiments, but you can be very vague in the specifics, and do not give clear advice as how to improve these mistakes.
ОтветитьWe did red (orange) mulch because we have a copper (orange) colored metal roof and orange trim/shutters/small section of siding with reddish orangish brick. We bought the house that way and can’t afford to change it all yet so we did the red mulch the make it work and maybe…flow…a little bit. I thought brown or black mulch would have looked weird against the all the orange. So we had make do with what we had to work with.
ОтветитьWatching from NZ. Enjoyed the content and your commentary. I don't mind the chalkboard for kids... Its only for a short time. ... Anything that gets them outside is good with me
ОтветитьI doubt the person cares how the chalk board looks. Sometimes you just need to toss some stuff back there for your kids. Our backyard pretty much resembles a preschool right now. Someday it might be more, but if I did it now the kids would just ruin it in a weekend anyways.
Ответитьthe flagstone off the deck, what would improve it would be ground cover planted next to the stones, the stones would meld into the ground cover, IMO
ОтветитьI like the rustic flagstone look. But I love your videos and thank you for the channel!
ОтветитьWay too much footage of you standing behind your laptop.
Ответитьdo work in nyc, by Westchester & do u charge for first consultation?
ОтветитьI'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't like red mulch. My brother likes it.
ОтветитьI want someone to bury my downspouts
ОтветитьHi my name is Richie and my question for you is I have garden beds in my back yard and my alfrevides and the bottoms are all dead and I can see the fence behind them what can I do
ОтветитьThank you for your great comments and ideas. Have a couple of mistakes to fix. ;-)
With our area constantly in some level of drought we collect water for our gardens. How would you suggest doing this without the UGLY water catchment barrels? This is really needed on the SW side of our house as there is no other accessible water? Need the trees so the house stays protected.
I need to re-stain. Yard is without a plan as I am removing an in ground pool!
ОтветитьI completely agree about the drain pipes from the house and I currently have my 91-year-old mom wanting me to fix her broken plastic drain pipe and I just wish she would invest in a good landscaper to fix the issue as she has the funding. So exhausting. And she loves red mulch. I hate it. Thank you for hating it. Lol.
ОтветитьQuestion we have a back yard with one side sloping 6 ft into a culvert. We were thinking about a hedge walls verse fence? Ideas. Also the down spout what side pvc do you get and how far from the house. We are thinking as t least the culvert side we could have drain come out on the slope?
ОтветитьMy landscaper when he cuts my backyard all the grass goes into my garden and all I have is a lot of grass weeds my question for you would it be better if I took all the grass out of my backyard and make it a full garden?
Ответить😂 totally purchased Japanese hollies the other day and husband wanted to line them up on driveway (not really for privacy screen) but I got a better idea with making it symmetrical and balanced after watching this videos and some before. It’s chef kisses 😘 now!! I decided to line up my narrow garden bed leading up to my door and flanking in front of my column posts without obstructing my view out into the hills - such nice flow! 😂 Thanks Bobby K- you’re making this DIY’er on a budgets’s landscaping look better!
Also, would you happen to know what kind of creeping plants those are that are hanging over the retaining wall/garden bed?! 😍
How do you do a plan I am taking all my lawn out and putting plants in how do I start the design
ОтветитьSo I have a house we just bought and long story short, I weed eaten the bed and doused it with round up thinking that would do the job. One bed it worked, the other not so much. I put mulch over both and the one has grass growing thru in spots. Ughhhhh. So annoying. I'm thinking I should've tilled it. Unfortunately I don't have one.
ОтветитьYou're exactly correct on all pictures. In fact, what bugs me the most is when people buy perennial plants and don't READ the tags. First, perennials cost more, so plant them right the first time. Second, plan out your design and take the time to choose plants for the amount of sunlight and water the plants need to grow properly according to your specific soil and yard. Look, we all make mistakes, but if it looks bad, then try again and fix it. And please STOP planting under your eves/windows, give the roots some room, and READ the tags.😊
ОтветитьHello! First time watching. We purchased a home about 4 1/2 years ago with a blank slate yard. It’s overwhelming, but I’ve researched and watched lots of videos! We have 1.25 acres, with approximately 1/3 woodlands. We have added many smaller trees, shrubs, a shed, and a large fenced in garden. Now I am connecting some of those trees and shrubs with beds for less mowing. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
ОтветитьI have a deck made from a product called trex (a plastic composite) It was here when we bought the house in 2012. My question is how can we revive it? It's faded and stained black in places. Can it be painted? What paint should we use that it won't flake off?
ОтветитьNot doing anything because I can’t decide and afraid of doing wrong thing
ОтветитьMusic is mixed too loudly.
ОтветитьBobby these are great observations and you are on point. Have you ever had any clients who have been able to include projects like installing proper drainage systems or other cases where you have used your functional landscape design and creativity to replace older ris5u43w and/or been able to moitvate these types of projects where insurance kicked-in which lowered landscaping costs? Or, have you had clients who were able to leverage insurance to make repairs to real-property or home repairs and/or build out new fixtures or make other improvements e.g., home repairs where insurace covers costs to replace old sunrooms or fix issues causing wet basements or other real-property issues casused by flooding or water damage,, etc? If so, that may be a great video to explore how to achieve your functional landscaping design at a low cost.
ОтветитьI overplant and my garden looks like a half jungle.
ОтветитьPlease stop with the music.
