And all these things are why I love living in St. George. Minus summer heat and tourist season. I mean why do they call it tourist season if the DNR doesn't issue hunting tags for it? I could have some trophies already this year.

ОтветитьA couple of things you did not get right (from a native):
- SLC was not "basically" established by the Mormons, it WAS established by the Mormons. Even those of us who are not religious anymore still have strong ties to family and friends who are religious. Most of us are sick and tired of people moving here willy-nilly from outside, they are a disruption to our culture and way of life. Most people in Utah will smile and be very friendly because that's what their religion teaches, and they will not overtly tell you that they don't want you there. Outsiders are driving up home prices, and most up-and-coming native Utahns who want to buy their own house for a reasonable price will deeply resent you for that.
- Road rage: Utah is like the road rage capital of the US at this point, and from what I can see the spike in incidence coincides with influx of non-native Utahns. No one is reporting any association with predominance of any particular group as perpetrators, but Mormons don't tend to run people off the road and the proceed to beat them to death in front of their children (yes, this happened recently).
- "Fresh mountain air" had me ROFLing. SLC has some of the WORST air quality in the nation because of the mountains and how they trap pollution. It's not just during the winter. Also, unless you have severe lung or renal disease, your body is designed to and WILL adapt to high altitude in 3-6 months. It WON'T adapt to the pollution.
In summary: too many people moving here is causing a lot of problems for us natives, anyone watching this should consider moving elsewhere.
If you think Utah's Liquor laws are funny you should see their underwear LOL
ОтветитьI visited for my employer in 2005. It's a very clean city, not much of a population for its size, nice people, nice weather, nice area. I have no interests in moving there but at least I can visit.
ОтветитьMake Utah lame again so everyone leaves.
Ответитьas a local - I'm confident in saying we're all beyond tired of blue-state refugees moving in only to then complain.
ОтветитьThe ski resort issues you mention are pretty localized to the areas near the canyons. The west side of the valley or south (Utah County) don't have to deal with the traffic, lodging, etc from the tourists. Even without the tourists coming to the resorts, the locals would cause traffic problems in the canyons (they do on the freeway ;-) Maybe downtown gets more tourist business during the winter with the tourists but I tend to avoid downtown SLC.
ОтветитьLived there for years. Good job. I had to leave. I simply don't like Mormons for many reasons.
Ответитьcurrently doing my courses for california/arizona licenses, its been a big uncertain career change for me, but im still excited. do you have any advice or tips to give a newcomer in this industry?
ОтветитьIf I had to live in a big city, It'd either be Salt Lake City or Anchorage.
ОтветитьThe number one downside about a ski resort is that it creates a lot of traffic for the people going to the ski resort?
ОтветитьWe don't get a ton of snow we haven't for years.
ОтветитьHow are there air BNB's in park city Utah laws dont allow you to have air bnb's.
