Install WordPress locally using XAMPP on a Mac

Thanks Rob, I did as you show in the video; but new version of XAMPP is available; and files are not under Applications/Xampp/Xamppfiles/... Nos it seems a kind of Server called LAMP is launched with all stuff related to Web Server and Files. The Problem: it´s not possible to do upgrades, download themes or anything that requires R-W permissions.

Any idea on how to solve it?

hello, I did exactly how you explained in this video and works! However now I want to install themes and upload and they asked about my FTP and I try some suggestions that I saw in other places but still with the same problem. Any suggestions? Where I can find the FTP username and password?

followed all these step but as soon as I type in "localhost/wordpress" and hit enter I am brought to a this site can't be reached page. It seems everything worked fine until tyring to reach wordpress through my local database.Please help. Having difficulty.

Hi! I know this video is old but I can't find anything else on the net to help me. I'm still having a "Error Establishing a Database Connection" Issue, and I get a Parse Error every time I try your suggestion of using an IP

I've tried replacing localhost with the exact IP address you typed in the comments (127.0.0.1:8889) as well as trying with the IP address that XAMPP gives me, and the IP address in my computer's Network Settings. I've tried putting in the IP with and without 8889 on the end. Every time I do this I get a "parse error" instead of the error establishing connection page.

" Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '.0' (T_DNUMBER), expecting ',' or ')' in /opt/lampp/htdocs/wordpress/wp-config.php on line 32 " (you guessed it, line 32 is the define DB_HOST line.

It could be worth noting that I couldn't get the dashboard, myphpadmin, or the Error Connecting page to show up at all without connecting to 8080. I had to type in localhost:8080/myphpadmin and localhost:8080/wordpress. With this in mind, I tried replacing the :8889 in the IP to :8080 but that also didn't make a difference.

I've deleted, started over, restarted and tried every variation in the config file to try and get this working and I can't figure it out at all. Please help! ;_;

I installed Xampp and wordpress but when I went to upload a plugin, I got this message, "Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2016/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?" So I don't have an Uploads folder. Did you have the same problem? What do you suggest I do?
