Regarding the cost of thread: use Joann 40-50% off coupons. When you consider the cost of a small spool of thread, and a huge serger thread spool, they are not expensive. The only serger thread I’ve ever run out of is white. They last forever. Also, when you change colors, put the two fullest spools to the right side.

On hiding the tails, I use a large needle, just like the crochet hook.

I've read that it's not a good idea to use serger thread on a regular sewing machine. It's thinner and weaker and is made for the high speed of a serger and in multiple thread applications (usually 3 or 4 thread overlock stitches). It can result in poor stitches on a sewing machine and you'll be trying to adjust the tension when it's really the thread that's the problem.

hide the ends by sewing back through with a yard needle. threading my serger intimidates me, so i try not to change threads. i'm also uncomfortable in removing my blade. i don't trust the length i need to create ruffles with my attachment. i love my machine but i don't use it as much as i want to because of these issues. thanks for the information.

Thank-you so much for all your videos! They have been incredibly helpful. I used the flat stitch on the bottom of a t-shirt, disengaged the knife and there are holes along the seam. I am so disappointed! It's an expensive t-shirt and I really wanted to simulate the same ladder effect. Do you know why the holes appear? It's like the fabric has been torn.

I buy serger thread from Wawak. On sale $1.79 for the coats and clark thread.Goes on sale about every 4-6 weeks.

I found serger thread cones at Walmart for under $5 bucks.

Kindly recommend for me a good serger that is affordable and economical

There is a big difference i THICKNESS bewein typical serger thread, and an ordinary thread. This may come from the "old fashioned" way of thinking? If you want ONLY to serge without secure the seem with a topp-stisch, use an ordinary 40/60 thread in the leftmost Needle.

If your serger thread is cotton, there's going to be a whole lot of lint in your sewing machine

I have a Baby Lock Celebrate serger.
It has no tension nobs onthe outside because its automatic, as well as having Air-Flow looper treading

Since my sewing machine has a window behind it, I just put my cones in a little jar, then thread it over the curtain rod, and then down to my machine.

I've heard that seger thread is a 1/3 of the weight as 'regular' sewing machine thread.i tried serher thread in my sewing machine and it did not work out at all!

I have not used this trick but another sewer said she buys one thread and makes bobbins for the other threads. However, you will need something to place on top of those bobbins so they will stay put.

Brilliant video, I am soooooo glad you posted! I am very new to using a serger and just starting out! Managed to create a spool of serger thread for my sewing machine yesterday with a long pin wider that the thread bobbin, it was spinning at 100 miles per hour and worked!

Another thing is “it lasts forever!” Lol (the surgery thread)

I buy those spools for my sewing machine anyway a lot cheaper and I bought a stand to hold it it holds 3 cones a lot of ppl on the fb groups say that u shud my use serger thread in a sewing machine and tut wen I say I do lol
