Gandalf bullshitting poor pippin .
ОтветитьA cousin I loved very much just passed away and I needed to hear this speech. I hope she goes to the place Gandalf described ❤
ОтветитьIan McKellen is one of a kind. Truly one of the greatest.
ОтветитьI'll always hold on to these words..
ОтветитьThis is so powerful and beautiful
ОтветитьI dont like such ideas
ОтветитьWhy couldn't this scene be longer
ОтветитьMy step dad is dying of cancer and my mum called me to talk about it and this moment came to mind when trying to comfort her. Thank you Gandalf.
ОтветитьI learned today that the late Sir Christopher Lee rewatched the trilogy the day he died and I like to think he hung on until this moment and closed his eyes and whispered along with Gandalf with his last breaths:
“No. No it isn’t.”
Except you don't get to go there when you die Pippen. 😂😂
ОтветитьHe's talking about JESUS.
Ответитьchills every time
ОтветитьI've always loved this scene of how he eases Pip. We'd all be like Pip thinkin about it as war is at the door.
ОтветитьThis is essentially a rephrasing of the first paragraph of chapter 8, Fog on the Barrow-Downs.
It was a description of a dream Frodo had while he, Sam, Merry and Pippin were spending their second night at Tom Bombadil's house.
From a Christian standpoint, when we lift from battle to heaven joined With Christ
ОтветитьSo true, The journey does not end here...
ОтветитьEpic
ОтветитьThis scene is my all time favorite scene in the entire series.
It makes me emotional every time.
McKellen rightly praised for his splendid acting here, but don’t underestimate the incredible work that Billy Boyd is doing to sell this scene. Magnificent, both of them.
ОтветитьThis is the gift. This is what he bestows. It is his essence, his greatness, his secret. To offer the sacrament of hope in the hour of defeat and the shadow of unending death. To hold aloft a light, like a lost crystal, promising eternal radiance in another world—a key against despair, an antidote to every hopeless heart. And thus, perhaps, even yet, to turn the course of fate once more.
ОтветитьIf that doesn't get you hyped to die in glorious combat... I can do nothing for you.
ОтветитьI just realized something i have failed to notice ALL THESE YEARS😢: Gandalf misses Valinor the same way the Hobbits miss the Shire
ОтветитьI have no regard for most religious, but I wouldn't mind this version of things when I pass.
ОтветитьGandalf was willing to go full power to spare time for the hope of men
Ответитьtelling death is not the end but another journey while being an immortal angel, seems like hypocrisy to me
Ответитьwhile I love the way Ian portrayed this scene, just think. there was no before. there will be no after. treasure these years you have.
ОтветитьGandalf just puts it all into perspective👍
ОтветитьI gave this speech at my father's funeral.
ОтветитьThat theme starts, and I get choked up.
ОтветитьEveryone always memes about Gandalf hating Pippin but here they are sharing one of the most wholesome scenes in the film.
ОтветитьThat's so beautiful they say heaven is the last world, and each grain of sand is a universe and had an infinite ocean ❤
ОтветитьThat was the kindest he ever was to Pippin
ОтветитьWhat many people who may not be familiar with Tolkiens other works don't realize is that Gandalf in this scene is describing Valinor.
ОтветитьThat deep breath and exhale as Gandalf looks off with such fondness in his eyes is brilliant
ОтветитьI have terminal cancer and all my treatments have stopped being effective. Now the cancer grows unchecked. All i have left is time and pain. I hope what Gandalf says is true in some form or another
ОтветитьIf I have a tombstone, this will be written on it
ОтветитьI love how Gandalf the White seems to be more joyous and full of hope after being resurrected and in the presence of Ilùvatar.
ОтветитьI have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and unfortunately I have a pretty serious case. I think about this speech a lot and it brings me some peace.
ОтветитьMakes me not afraid of death at all, such an immaculate analogy, i hope you are all in good health and spirits ❤
ОтветитьHow Pippin's voice breaks when he asks: what, Gandalf, see what?
That always gets me. This scene had been in my head since I first saw it. I love their dynamics, the actors were amazing and they came so far together. Pippin defending Gandalf in front of the Witch King always makes me emotional. Balin was right, the courage of Hobbits will never cease to amaze me.
I just have to say from an acting perspective … look at Pippins neck! That pulse is fast and hard; but there’s no redness in his face. This means the actor genuinely felt terror/panic but didn’t do any physical gimmicks to try and fake those high stakes. In terms of talent it doesn’t get better than that 🙌🏻
ОтветитьCliff notes version:
Gandalf is telling Pippen about Aman or The Blessed Realm. we would call it heaven or the afterlife. As he is a Maia, he can't die so he is telling Pippen what the afterlife is for people like him. Gandalf's mission on earth ran counter to that of Saruman in that he saw the greatness in smaller creatures. Where Saruman destroyed and devised cruel schemes, Gandalf took the chance to help the less fortunate.
I know Tolkien despised Allegory but the closest parallel is Jesus. Take away the magic tricks and you have the book of Matthew all over again. Just replace cross with fire breathing demon from Hell and you've hit the mark. Gandalf even comes back three days later and leads a great host into a final battle. The parallels are really quite impressive. Also, Jesus is shown to be a warrior as well, but not all enemies are flesh, just as not all creatures of darkness in LOTR are mortal. You have the Nazgul, Shelob and quite a few others.
Dante's inferno (fictional, not historical record) records that Jesus ascended from Hell with the souls of the damned, Adam, Noah and a few others. What, did you think Jesus was kicking back in heaven? No, he was kicking ass in hell. If Evil touches Holy? BOOM
Gandalf likewise killed the literal Devil (+5000 EXP) and got a promotion (+500 health, +500 defense).
America right now
ОтветитьIf only we had someone like a Maiar to guide us through this shitty world😢
ОтветитьThis was a brilliant scene because you really felt they were going to die. In any other film, you don't feel those stakes, but McKellen sells the moment so hard. The peril feels real.
ОтветитьSuch a wonderful moment in the films, of course there are so many, its definitely one of my favourites. great performances by both actors and the delivery of the lines is magical.
Ответитьso very beautiful
Ответитьthis is my heaven
ОтветитьI’m in a trench in Donbas Ukraine right now and this speaks volumes to me
ОтветитьPut my dog to sleep yesterday and this quote from Gandalf always makes me feel at peace ❤
