"Stretch" is still to this day one of the most underrated gem of a movie.
I have showed it to so many people who enjoyed it.
Joe's carreer is uneven, but still interesting.
Man, people sure are nasty in comments. This guy was being totally frank in the interview. He managed to make some really cool movies within the Hollywood system and that's is not easy.. Narc is really good, and CopShop was entertaining. I still haven't seen The Grey, but I have heard amazing things.
ОтветитьI really appreciate Carnahan’s work but him saying “plug and play” is weird considering he made A-Team.
ОтветитьI’ve been realizing for a while, thanks Feige, that directors to him are nothing more than managers. That’s what middle management is managing all the crap and making sure things get completed in an orderly fashion due to costs. Hundreds of millions go into these films and that’s what directors have to be. Middle management.
ОтветитьDude, stop picking your nails/teeth on camera.
ОтветитьI would much prefer being Joe Carnahan than JJ Abrams! lol The later is a corporate bland sellout. Funny thing is, those Mission Impossibly flicks are less CGI than most movies nowaday and I could see Joe doing something like that. And speaking of Marvel, if you watch the first Iron Man movie, it was more grounded and I think Joe could have done something like that as well.
Ответить"Being disavowed, going underground" is literally Mission: Impossible 1 lol
ОтветитьHe called MI2 a "parody of a spy movie" and said his script would've been like a 70s paranoia drama but we all know the types of films Carnahan makes. His perception of his MI3 script and the reality of his MI3 script definitely wouldn't match.
ОтветитьJoe if nothing else you showed the world there are still real storytellers out there. Thank you for making The Grey!
ОтветитьMI 3 wasn't my favorite movie, but it was so much better then 2. I thought 2 should have ended the series it was so bad to me.
ОтветитьReminds me of Gareth Edwards who went from filming the cleverly disguised love story of “MONSTERS “ guerrilla filmmaking all around South America, which ended up being a very good film, giving him the opportunity to do a huge film regarding a legendary franchise character in “GODZILLA “. The film was so successful opening weekend it greenlighted the rest of the films to come. His vision on the film, IMO was the best, establishing more of a realistic tone regarding the existence and survival of these creatures as opposed to what was done in the 70’s. He bailed because of not wanting to keep rehashing the same crap over and over again. His 2014 movie featured his original designs for Godzilla’s adversaries. This success gave him another opportunity to work on probably the biggest franchise ever, Starwars, which he did more great work on “ROGUE ONE” definitely the best film out of all that recent crap. He’s right about the “plug and play” mentality, studios will not deviate from their tried and true formula, for the most part 😢
ОтветитьJoe is an excellent action director.
ОтветитьTom is working on a new movie about the life of a man with chronic constipation. It’s called Motion Impassable.
ОтветитьI think it was too big for him looking at his movie list. He's not bad but he's not a gold star winner director.
ОтветитьNGL, MI:3 was the last of the mediocre MI films. From MI:4 onward the series has been much better.
ОтветитьMI3 is what saved the franchise
ОтветитьGood to hear ya Joe!
ОтветитьJoe we need A-TEAM 2! GET ON IT!
ОтветитьMission Impossible didn't really start until the 4th film. The 1st was an okay retelling of the tv show. The 2nd was a disaster. All I can remember is the ridiculous motorcycle duel and doves . The 3rd is the worst. Phillip Seymore Hoffman as the big baddie. That didn't work. From Ghost Protocol it became a fun spy adventure series of films. Exactly what the dour grumpy Daniel Craig's Bond should have been.
ОтветитьIt's cos he couldn't use CG effects as much as he wanted but was forced to use more real stunts
ОтветитьOooh thew grey is amazing! I watch it at leat once a year. What really irks me I did not see it in theatres, the local newspaper because named it worst movie they ever saw... I later picked up through the grapewine it was actually a great movie!
ОтветитьIt's funny how every other director of every other MI film has been picked for their specific style and every movie reflects that...They are all clearly the work of De Pama ,John Woo,JJ and the McQ guy....
ОтветитьAnd we all know Tom….. he’s making billions on great product, how ya doin?
ОтветитьWell - that and the fact that you were fired, obvs.
ОтветитьWhat is it with the biting of the finger nails. If I had a director like that I wouldn/t want to work for him.
ОтветитьStill waiting on A-Team 2.
ОтветитьNarc is still his best movie, underrated classic
ОтветитьA friend of mine has recently made his way into directing episodic television after grinding for a number of years independently. He's done short films, and his feature length film is Something Is Killing Tate (2008). His individual vision as a filmmaker is very unique, but his episodic work up to this point doesn't have his "stamp" so to speak. The episodes he's directed seem no different than the others from the series he's worked on.
ОтветитьMi3 was a brilliant movie
Ответить..And He did A-Team. lol
ОтветитьSTRETCH is one of the best movies I have seen in recent years. Unfortunately totally underrated.
ОтветитьCarnahans filmography is a joke
ОтветитьNarc was a life changing film! From Detroit area born and raised. So good!
ОтветитьFincher left, as well as much of the earlier cast. I really don't think I like where J.J. Abrams and the film industry went. It's just too much.
ОтветитьI saw Narc at a pre-release Q&A screening in NY. Amazing stories behind getting that film done but there were moments where Joe was banging on about people that didn’t believe in him or the movie (basically, in wrestling parlance publicly “giving them a receipt”) and the actors on stage looked like they’d rather be anywhere but on that stage.
ОтветитьWow
ОтветитьI really enjoyed the A-Team movie that Joe made.
ОтветитьGreat ep, thank you. Gaahd, yes, totally a plug and play effort across the funding now. If you want to be on the leading edge in filmmaking and creativity, you gotta go somewhere else like the Nordic countries, make films in Denmark, where there's still a Dogme 95 Manifesto-feel going on in a smaller, contained environment.
ОтветитьWhy I quit my last job. Because I was fired.
ОтветитьI was going to blast this man, but if he made the grey, then what can I say... I watch that film every 2 years. What a great film that was.
ОтветитьWatched the whole thing and he never gets into details.
ОтветитьIt's probably for the best.
ОтветитьSay I pick you
And give you the winning Lotto numbers.
You could pay off your mortgage and your parents mortgage
And pick a friend and pay off all ther bills and Debt free 🆓
You wouldn't play them ??????
And he's a no name!!! Person
Not like JJ Abrams Jerry Buckhimer Steven Spielberg. Quentin Tarantino
Sometimes you can get the greatest talent for a movie and it just isn't a great fit. No shame in that.
ОтветитьSo that's really the best Internet connection that was possible? Is he stranded on an island?
Ответить...Right...Right now the big studios want ' Employees' and thank goodness that there are some people like Carnahan that doesn't want to be just a cog...
ОтветитьI loved Mission Impossible 3. What's he on about?
Ответить
