Lost in translation? Academia Rossica's book prize

The cultural organisation Academia Rossica has just announced the long list for its book prize for the best Russian novel translated into English. The prize aims to encourage the publication of Russian works in English. Thirty-seven novels are on the long list, including new translations of Boris Godunov by Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, a book of dispatches from the late Anna Politkovskaya, a long poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky and novels by contemporary writers like Boris Akunin. Alice Lagnado asked James Rann, the literary projects coordinator for Academia Rossica, whether there has been an increase in Russian works available in the English market....
