I have no idea why people are so blown away with his ability with language. He is of Czech heritage and clearly kept his language skills up at home. His parents probably learnt Russian when they were over there when the Russians were a heavy influence.
My Eastern European friends of a certain age almost all speak fluent Russian as it was expected when they were younger and taught in school
