Really interesting episode, thanks chaps!
ОтветитьNeil's back! 🎉🥳
ОтветитьThere's an Elite port for the Vectrex with keyboard support, the platform is ideal for the game.
ОтветитьIf you didn’t have time for games before a kid… i’ve got bad news for you! Welcome back and best of luck.
ОтветитьGreat to see Neil back! Apparently the Scots Gaelic for Hedgehog is 'gràineag' which means something like 'ugly wee thang'.
ОтветитьWelcome back Neil you have been missed. Shame Reece is leaving
ОтветитьNice to see the voice of reason back splitting the Atari boys up.
Ответить+1 for rees's pronunciation of SEGA, this is the way.
ОтветитьHow on earth did you manage to get Neil to appear on your podcast? 😉
ОтветитьWelcome back Neil, we've missed the Dad jokes lol. ;-)
ОтветитьNeil!!! It's like TWIR Christmas haha Congrats on the adoption my friend and great show as always, even if the focus isn't on my beloved Atari this go round ;)
ОтветитьI think most people with an active interest in beebs are probably running pi co-pros already. Elite took advantage of the co-pro originally so a finished elite 2 for the beeb would just be doing the same as the first one.
ОтветитьMSX version of Elite was never released in Japan. Might have sold a few copies if it had been. Although Jet Set Willy was considered a poorly designed very annoying game when Hudsonsoft put that out
ОтветитьI think a 4K oled in portrait at maybe 10" would be a good modern stand in for CRT vector display.
ОтветитьI did own a Amiga1200 in which I played Frontier, but moved onto pc and changed to First Encounters which you seemed to of missed. Though to be honest I dont think there was any differance. And the classic I did make it to elite but by forcing Witch-space^^.
ОтветитьNeil? RMC the Cave? Never heard of em! 🤣🤣🤣
PAPA NEIL IS BACK!!!!!!!
My C64 copy of Elite had manual word copy protection, not that horrid Lenslok thankfully.
Close but no SEGA?
Fair play to Rees, he's a natural for this!
Play Expo next week! Any of you going?
Lovely to have Neil back, and thanks for letting us Norn Irish folk know about the new Amiga meetup!
ОтветитьAnd Elite using the Vectrex and a pitrex cart...
ОтветитьThat top quality Kazoo solo... Rees is wasted working in IT!
ОтветитьBRILLIANT TO SEE YOU BACK NEIL WELL DONE REECE GREAT GUY
ОтветитьI think the Agon is a Z80-based machine so not the easiest choice for porting Elite 2, which is no doubt in machine code, not BASIC. A new machine with a 6502 CPU would be a better choice.
ОтветитьSad about no more Ress weekly double dose but having Neil back make it up. 😂
So welcome back Neil! 🎉
I would like to see a version of Elite 2 on the original BBC micro with a Pi Coprocessor
ОтветитьIt was a brave move to deliberately make the paid for version inferior to the pirate.
ОтветитьDo you like the Interwebs?
ОтветитьI've been enjoying increased positive Atari content lately instead of 35 years old tired and recycled "jokes" from certain community. Hopefully the same professional level is maintained in the future episodes. I might even become a patreon.
ОтветитьHail from Archangel Stalker (Elite) ! Yeah, hello from Finland!
ОтветитьHi Guys. Welcome back Neil!! I am a huge Elite fan. I have all 34 versions in my collection! I still have my gold badge from Firebird for getting to Elite on my trusty C64. I'm also a regular columnist in Pixel Addict! (Templeman's Treasures). Happy to share my memories any time! RIGHT ON COMMANDER! O7
ОтветитьThe murder gloves shall make a return!
ОтветитьMy Dad got Elite on Elite Plus for PC (a PC port of the original BBC Elite). In my opinion one of the better versions of the original Elite, with additional "secret" missions and a few other minor upgrades, along with Adlib sound and VGA colour filled polygons. I still occasionally get Dosbox out and fire up Elite Plus
ОтветитьGot elite on the BBC model b on tape with box and manual ❤
ОтветитьMinecraft is not ALL procedurally generated. The map is procedurally generated but the game is not. I don't see the comparison to be honest.
ОтветитьMaybe the source code for Elite 2.0 should be given to AI... That could be interesting
ОтветитьSpecial guest 😂
ОтветитьTether two Gooseneck's to support the weight?
ОтветитьThe whole "light gun" thing shouldn't be that hard to do with modern tech. You just need a raster. It doesn't technically have to be a CRT. I'm sure a dedicated LCD/OLED controller could simulate a raster beam by turning on one pixel at a time. Or a tri-color laser with a voice coil lens.
This really needs to happen. :-)
Neil's doing legit Dad jokes already. Welcome back!
ОтветитьNever received the Elite rating but got the Deadly rating. Somehow, I lost interest in the game and the computer that time.
ОтветитьAnother great show, thanks guys! Great to see Neil back too!!
ОтветитьThank you. o7
ОтветитьI so badly wanted to play elite 2 frontier (purchased it in Asraya way back when) the software protection, what is word x on page y of book w, every single time you tried to do anything, everything, that killed it for me sadly.
ОтветитьA BBC Micro Mini would be awesome!
ОтветитьYou're only ELITE if you can shoot 3 Python missiles with nothing but your OG lasers. ECM's are for Mostly Harmless only.
ОтветитьFYI there is a version of Elite being written for the Agon by none other than Christian Pinder, of Elite: The New Kind fame.
It's a hobby project so development isn't on a fast-track, but the basics are there, and it can be run either using wireframes like the classic beeb version, or filled ships like the Archimedes had. Performance is great - it's looking very promising.
