Im getting into dune i saw it as a child and loved it and now part 2 is coming....i will read the graphic books and reg books and of course watch all your vids to help me understand this wild universe....
ОтветитьYou're right, the art looks uninspired.
ОтветитьLow if one of those novels i cant ge through.. id love the story but art is soo apalling i cant :(
ОтветитьCheers, I was thinking of getting this because I love Alex Jay Brady, and I think the straightforward style of the way it was adapted doesn't do her work any favours.
ОтветитьI read part of the graphic novel in aibrary and couldn't read anymore because of the aesthetician. It's wayyy to boring, as you said it's not risqué. Now the graphic novel the metabarons has a realistic look but isn't clean, though very beautiful. I think that dame artwork would have been perfect for the graphic novel. Not this clean, non gritty look, it doesn't make me excited to jump back in and inspect it visually.
ОтветитьWhat's the song playing at the beginning?? Very good!
ОтветитьInstantly subscribed, this dude is good vibes
ОтветитьWhy do people keep making Dune mundane and boring? The art doesn't look bad by any means but for a Dune comic I feel like you need someone like Moebius or Sana Takeda from Monstress. This is drawn like a traditional Marvel or DC comic and Dune is anything but that. The art here doesn't really look like it took a whole team to do ether.
ОтветитьSorry, have to brag,Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson are two of our very good friends. My SO was Kevin's transcriptionist (he 'writes' as he hikes.) and therefore all the Anderson parts of the "Herbert/Anderson" House books were typed in out kitchen. SO was the first set of eyes to see them in print. They introduced SO once at a panel and had them stand. They got a massive ovation and I grinned like the Cheshire cat. They are great people. And nearly ALL off it came from five unknown computer discs Frank had placed in a safety deposit box, until the back called a said, "What do you want us to do with this stuff in the safety deposit box?" It was the notes and even wholly realized scene from the NEXT set of "Dune" novels he'd had in the works. They had no idea they existed, and it included the entire Atriede/Harkonnen (It's 'HARK-eh-nun' btw, the movie got it right) family tree. And thus, new 'Dune' books.
ОтветитьLove the way you show...
ОтветитьI didn't really like this comic. Visual ideas are often not the most correct. For example, the appearance of ornithopters. I understand that the word orni refers to a bird, but in the book it was described as looking like a dragonfly. Essential things, such as the gom jabbar scene are missing.
I could list his faults. But i wont..I think this comic is just a soulless piece of work. It wants to ride the success of the film. Nothing more.
I won't buy the second part. I'm selling the first one.
nice review - thanks
ОтветитьDo you have any idea when book 3 is slated to come out? I saw that book two is August 2022.
ОтветитьI don't know if you read the Dune:House Atredies graphic novels.... DO IT!!!!! They were sooooo good and gave some great background history on Leto, Duncan Idaho, Pedot Kynes, the Harkonen and Atriedies feud and Jessica! I would love to see your review!
ОтветитьFunny that publishers now call comics graphical novels. xD
Like it makes it more directed at adults just by the name of it.
I think what your saying is the art should be more dynamic and perhaps expressive
ОтветитьU sound like Hannibal lector
ОтветитьDid you see that there is an official movie version comic as well? I found that very strange that we have 2 comic adaptations right now.
ОтветитьI found it to be painfully underwhelming, just uninteresting and uncompelling.
ОтветитьI couldn't agree more, I got it and the art is kind of underwhelming.
ОтветитьI just saw the movie. I read a lot of manga. This will comic book I'm gonna a read
ОтветитьYou have excellent taste sir!
Ответитьmovie is out
ОтветитьDoes anyone know anything about this will happen at all and if so, when?
ОтветитьDid you check the Marvel Comics Super Special adaptation of David Lynch’s Dune written by Ralph Macchio (no, not THAT Ralph Macchio) and illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz?
ОтветитьCould you please do a tour of your library
ОтветитьI wasn't impressed at all. The art is bargain basement quality. I expected much more TBH.
ОтветитьThe drastic contrast between the just panels used in both graphic novels alone is crazy, and LOW is not the only one who gets it, the best graphic novels understand there's no point in making a great book into something visual if you're going to be boring with the visuals. Otherwise what is really the point? Just stick to the book. This Dune graphic novel just has grids and grids of rectangles after rectangles, and worse yet is that the "camera" is always at the most boring angle possible. That's a big one for me, when the artists don't give you creative and dynamic angles. As you said, not very cinematic
ОтветитьI really agree with you when you compare the art on Low and the art on Dune. The Dune stuff just looks so flat compared. Dune as a story has so many levels and such a range of themes. The art doesn't seem to come up to the same standard. Still looks exciting though!
ОтветитьAw, dude, I needed this video!!!! It inspired me so much! Probably will buy next time 😃 thx you a lot!!
ОтветитьThank you for putting into words what I was not able to after reading it. Now I know what was off about it.
ОтветитьFrançois Baranger should do a Dune graphic novel - that would be amazing!
ОтветитьYou should read the Elric graphic novels! 😀
ОтветитьYou make such great vehicles!!
ОтветитьSure, the artwork was nice, but the story was somewhat lacking. Most of the story of the novel was explained by the thoughts of the characters. Most of that is missing from this one.
ОтветитьHi. I'm entering now on the Dune universe and your vídeos about the lore of Dune are very compeling.
You should make a video about the figurines, your take on the design and style of the weapons a suits.
It would be cool.
You should definitely review the Dune board games, the chaps at Shut up and Sit Down could help you out.
Apologies, I'm going to post this on some of your other vids as I would love to get a Dune oriented recommendation.
Really appreciate the review, going to check out the GN now!
ОтветитьI would recommend reading 'The Metabarons', it's fenomenal.
ОтветитьThe graphic novel is the first dune anything I have read and it is great. I am loving it and it makes me want to read the book.
ОтветитьIf you’re not that much into realism, I think you’re going to be disappointed by Villeneuve’s film. He goes hyper realistic.
ОтветитьWow, this is such a cool idea though. I agree from what I can see I wish the art was a bit more mystical.. less traditional western style.. i just got into the books this year though. Would love to see more renditions with alternative art styles emerge in the future!!! So much of the fan artwork is Gorgeous!!!!
ОтветитьThanks Quinn. I'll likely pick these up but... Wow I'll have to go find that Low graphic novel. The premise sounds like a lot of fun and the brief overview of the artwork looks very cool. Perhaps you could do a larger segment about that story sometime?
ОтветитьSold!
ОтветитьWe need an "ultimate guide to Duncan Idaho" vid. His character throughout each book. That would be interesting. I hope you see this. Take care man...
Ответитьaids art...
Ответитьi totally agree realism is boring. i really love Dave McKean work because he all ways adds the right level of abstraction. so that the art has something to say
ОтветитьThanks, good video!
