U-Haul worker here! We at U-Haul, require storage units to have these disk locks. However, with how many security cameras U-Haul has for their self storage, it makes up for the security of the locks. We design our hasps to where it makes it more difficult to get in with bolt cutters or an angle grinder to get these disk locks open without damaging the hasp of the storage unit or leaving evidence behind that someone broke into the unit. U-Haul has never had an incident where someone broke into someone's storage unit, from what I've heard.
ОтветитьWhere would you have to purchase such picking tools from?
ОтветитьVery helpful.
ОтветитьYou make it look so easy! I just got a lock pick set and have decided the practice lock is too easy and went ahead to jump straight into trying to pick my dads uhaul disk lock. I've been at it for a couple hours now and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Its a little disheartening
ОтветитьHello I saw your video on how to open a round lock I have a round lock just like the one in your video in storage I lost the keys yesterday and I need to open that lock can u show me the 2 items I'll need to open my round lock
Thank you
Wtf people pay for those locks to keep the theft away an your showing them how !! You dick
ОтветитьI've taken up lockpicking as a recent past time and I just encountered this same lock, and no, it's not this easy to pick or rake. I've spent a lot of time on this lock (hours), and still no success. Don't let this video fool you.
ОтветитьMakes me wonder how good the U-Haul discus locks are, because at U-Haul storage facilities, the discus locks are REQUIRED.
P.S, because Managers and auction leaders have to get into the unit if your unit goes up for auction, we must be able to drill out the core. So drilling attacks aren't all that impossible.
F#@k u! Thanks for helping criminals that break into storage units for this and ruining people's hard earned work fr an actual job. Make ur info on ur paid site for this or some shit. 🖕
ОтветитьGeeee... I WONDER why people find this helpful... Smh
ОтветитьPublic information is OBVIOUSLY helping criminals more than learning
ОтветитьWhy tf would this be anything BUT teaching board ass kids to become criminals and steal PS4s in storage when hard working class pay there gawddamn taxes
ОтветитьCan u ACTUALLY think about what ur posting first? UNLESS ur a criminal urself? Like, seriously? I have some questions...
Ответить. What Are The Tools You Used ?
ОтветитьPin from Canada's pulaski and diversity
ОтветитьWhat are the holes in the back of the lock for
ОтветитьSo I'm actually trying to pick my own storage lock as I've either lost the key or someone has swapped my lock. The latter seems more probable since I have the keys to the unit on a ring with other keys and all of sudden it no longer works🤔 Anywho though, can you tell me the exact tools used here please?
ОтветитьI have some experience in picking and raking different types of locks.... but can't seem to get this one to save my life. I have an ultra cheap pick set, but can't put the blame there.... I'm obviously missing something
Ответить👏 🙏 ♥️ 🇩🇪
ОтветитьWhen you use “top of the keyway tension” about how deep can you place your tensioner before hitting the first pin? Also why specifically would you use this method in this case?
I cannot seem to get enough grip on the tensioner or depth, in order to put the pressure required to turn the cylinder. I’ve been trying this UHAUL lock for well over 6 months off and on. It will not yield to my attack. Love this channel!
These locks can also be easily picked in 30 seconds with a torsion wrench and snake rake (with little experience), did it 3 times during the duration of this video, these locks are NOT secure!
ОтветитьJust found one of these locks on a walk tonight. Gonna try to pick it, thanks for the video!
ОтветитьI'm at public storage. The poplock guy drilled a hole. Can't open it. And gone to get more tools. I'm on a limit with the truck rental. So I have two hours left. No pop lock guy back yet. Cost me $150 for him to make a whole in the lock. I think uhaul and pop lock got some deal going on to rip there customers off.
ОтветитьLooks like trash
ОтветитьLost key now they want a lot money to cut it off plus went up on my rent
ОтветитьIt's funny that the storage facility that I use will only insure the unit if these disc locks are used. They also use their own red painted discs when a payment is late. Bwahahahaha. Disc locks are the easiest rake openers I've ever found.
ОтветитьThank you, very helpful!
(Dont ask)
I used one of these on my gym locker and the key broke, with the lock still stuck to my backpack (which i keep the lock on when not using the locker), so i had to pick it off.
Reminds me of going to the dentist.
ОтветитьIt’s in the name storage for the public 😂😂
ОтветитьHello, I just found your channel when I did a Google search regarding the round lock. Maybe you can help me or provide advice? I was recently contacted by my storage unit and told the maintenance man noticed my lock was missing. I have been with this company for over eight years and at this particular unit for about seven years (I needed a bigger unit and moved from a smaller unit to this one around 2016). This is the first time my lock has been missing. I visited my unit in May (it's out of state, and I live in California) to look for some old Pokemon cards and a few other keepsakes. Unfortunately, the unit was messy and disorganized, and I found it difficult to find what I was looking for. After looking for three days, off and on, my daughter and I grabbed a small box of items we wanted, including my old high school yearbook and her old PS2. Many items were left. We took pictures of the unit the way it was before we left. I closed the metal door of the unit and locked it, according to my memory. My lock was round like the one in your video, and I believe when I inserted the key, it stayed until the lock was closed, and the key would release and come out. I'm going to request CCTV from the company and an investigation, but I'm not sure if they'll honor my request. I intend to file a police report, but I don't know how other than to fly to the East Coast and do it in person. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. I hope I'm not making a fool of myself and that it isn't user error, but I'm sure I closed the lock before I flew back home. Also, that was in May of this year, and if the maintenance man just noticed it on Friday, October 27th, I'm not sure how long the lock was missing. Please help.
ОтветитьGreat video. How can you tell if a lock is a candidate for raking? Maybe 40% are. But, how can you tell?
ОтветитьI have a lock like this on the door to our under-the-house crawlspace because we actually have room down there to stand up and store large items (the house is on a hill, so one side has a lot more space underneath). We also have a whole-house water filtration system where the water comes in from the street and I have to change the pre-filter and post-filter every few months.
I lost my keys so now I want to try picking the lock so I can get back in there.
Where can I purchase lock picks
ОтветитьIs this the mouse trap 🪤 guy ?
ОтветитьYou dumb jackass. How are people supposed to secure their belongings if you're telling people how to pick the damn lock? I hope someone breaks into your house either the information you provide. Maybe I can promote that. My life time acquired is behind some of these locks!! Geez America gets smarter and smarter!!
Ответитьr a k e
ОтветитьI hope this video helps to open my Ace Hardware branded disc lock to be opened! Thanks
ОтветитьWhat's a lawyer doing educating criminals? This is not a "hobby" activity.
ОтветитьI can easily pick any lock around the house accept this stupid thing. I don't know how this could be easy for beginners because I can't seem to get it. If I try to put a tension wrench in the top of it like that it doesn't want to stay in, and keeps falling out. I pick and pick and can't seem to unlock it.
ОтветитьMy lock wouldn’t turn and I broke the key.
ОтветитьI had this laying around from my previous storage unit, and when I put the key in to loosen it up, two brass pins or pellets fell out. I was able to close it again but now I can't open it. Should I just throw out this $50 lock or can I fix it?
ОтветитьWOW.
ОтветитьWhat are the names
Of the devices u use please
Top of keyway with wiper and wave saved us a locksmith call in a pinch on our unit getting back in when we lost the keys. Thank you! Videos like this save $385 locksmith calls every time.
ОтветитьThank you for showing thieves how to steal our sh*t !!
ОтветитьI think someone tried opening my lock and they broke the gold part that it fell out. So now I can’t open it at all n
ОтветитьAny idea on how to open it without having to cut it off? I don’t have any guy friends with tool.
ОтветитьI just drilled 2 of these for a customer and my boss charged him 250 bucks. Took ten minutes…
Ответитьgood to know. i just got a uhaul storage unit and they gave me this same type of lock but branded with uhaul. I'm not afraid of anybody breaking in but if I end up losing the keys then it's good to know I can just use a rack instead of them cutting the lock off.
ОтветитьHi guys ~ sorry, long response here, but the short response is "not a representative review" at least from the perspective that this lock is not what you should be buying at a PS facility today. That lock was produced for PS well over 6 or 7 years ago. I know because PACLOCK has been producing the disc locks for PS since then... and there are tell tale signs that tell me whether a lock is from pre or post-PACLOCK days. I am 100% certain that lock was not produced by PACLOCK for a couple of reasons. How did you come about this lock? I'm sure PS would want to know if they have really old inventory somewhere that hasn't been cleared out.
With that said, your review, as always, is completely fair and accurate on this lock! It is JUNK!!!! It's why PS came to PACLOCK saying "please help us, we need better for our customers!" I could fill up even more pages talking about what we did to help PS, and I know all of you would truly enjoy the stories. But maybe one day over a beer and in person! For now let me highlight a few things (that will still take up some pages).
There are only two or three factories in China that can make the disc locks. And those two factories do a very poor job of it... and, yes, those factories put all kinds of "manufacturers" names on the disc locks. I don't want to disparage any other manufacturer, but if their disc lock was made in China (check the packaging), then it was likely made at one of those two factories. Watch out.
For the first year and a half PACLOCK worked with those two factories to make drastic improvements to their products. Pulling teeth doesn't even come close to trying to explain what we went through. But we did what we could and did make significant improvements to the lock. Biggest problem? Key interchange. Even a 5-pin cylinder, if it's from one of these Chinese factories, would have interchange like mad.
But who knows that? Who sits there with 50 padlocks on a desk and tries each individual key in every single lock. Yup, 2,500 different key insertions. PACLOCK did it over and over again (it takes 4 hours each time you do it). Careful of the quality associated with some of the manufacturers mentioned in some of the users' comments below... I can tell you for a fact that even those well known manufacturers have a not-more-than-one-in-20 key interchange standard! Sounds absurd right? 5-pin cylinders should have lots of key changes!!! Not if your quality is far less than acceptable... 2 pins in a cylinder, you betcha! Terrible tolerances on the pins themselves? You betcha! Terrible cutting tolerances on the steel keys, you betcha! On and on. So saying they have 5-pins is truly an illusion of security (as proven by LPL in this video!).
What PACLOCK did with those 2 factories is pound them into improving manufacturing to the point where we could get no key interchange in 1 in 500 locks! It was a monumental feet and they complained, but made it happen. Cost us more. Then we forced them to do 6 different keyways with those same 500 numbers! And we forced them to start at key #1 and go to key #500! Yes, painful!!! But by doing that, we go PS no key interchange on an entire pallet of 3,000 padlocks!!! That was huge back then, never before done. This was 2012 into 2013. Lots of work was done with the functionality of the locks also, but we had less success there. Still, PS was very happy with the disc locks we started supplying.
But PACLOCK wasn't done yet! While we were working with those other established factories to try and get them to change (improve), we were working to establish a new factory to specifically make a drastically improved version of the disc lock... what we call the "PRO" version. What makes it "PRO"?
- First ever 6-pin cylinder (and for real, all 6 pins all the time!)
- Modified pins to allow for a single bit changeout... which then bumped us up to more than 20,000 unique (and useable) key numbers!!!
- We were able to incorporate our pick and bump resistance technology into the cylinders
- Nickel silver keys (stronger than regular brass)
- The two outer clams made on progressive die stamp machines for superior tolerance control (this is huge because it affects the functionality of the lock). A typical China factory will use 10 or 12 different press machines to form the outer shells... a progressive die machine is huge and performs all of those functions on a single die and feeding the material in as it goes (progressively).
- Ultrasonic cleaning of the lock after it gets sanded and buffed. Ever get a disc lock that is either dripping in grease/oil or is full of debris? That's because a typical factory doesn't want to spend the time or money to ultrasonic clean their locks so they spray in a bunch of oil and try to air blast as much out as they can... doesn't work well. Our PRO locks will never have dripping oil or tons of debris in them.
- 100% welded seam on the outside and even under the shackle. Doing under the shackle takes a CNC controlled laser welder that is expensive to buy and hard to setup. We did it for PS.
There's probably more, but I've that's what's off the top of my head. We started producing these versions of the disc lock for PS back in 2014 and, I'd suspect, that's all PS should have in their system at this point. How do you know if it's a "PRO"? Lots of signs.
First, the lock literally says "Disc Lock PRO" on it. Second, no PS logos at all anywhere. Why? Let's just call it blackmail out of China with PS's logo and we all decided to not pay the ransom... so no logos it is! Third, every PACLOCK produced disc lock (even from the "other" factories) has a manufacturing date/code stamped on the back of it.
The code serves a bunch of purposes. Keep in mind that while we produce these locks in China (too much welding/buffing/sanding to do it in USA, no one would pay the price), PACLOCK does quality inspections on every single batch that comes in from our factory. And we are thorough. So we track any quality issues batch to batch and constantly work with our factory to insure quality stays where we want it. I don't know of any other padlock "manufacturer" that does this extra step of quality assurance in the USA.
So, with all of that said, I'd ask for LPL to go to your local PS and grab a disc lock and give this a whole re-do test! BosnianBill did about a 20 minute review of our "PRO" locks when we first came out with them... wouldn't mind having a second set of eyes/picks check up on us again years later!!! Obviously PACLOCK would be more than happy to send you some test locks (like we did for BosnianBill back then), but we don't want it to seem like we would cherry pick! Back with BosnianBill, we didn't have a choice because the locks weren't yet in stores. Today, they should be everywhere!
Apologies for the long write up, but hopefully it gives you all a taste of the sort of attention to detail and overcoming-obstacles PACLOCK will go through to get an important customer truly good quality products! Plus, I'm a fast typer!!!
