I absolutely love the letters of Van Gogh! They are so interesting to read alongside his paintings and they do dispel some of the oversimplified narratives that exist surrounding him.

just saw how many oxford world classic editions you have and i love those editions. they make reading the classics so much more informative and provide much needed context for things sometimes.

i'm catching this video soooo late - but if it's not too late I wanted to warn that Angels Before Man is a pretty emotionally harrowing book!! it might be a bit much for a bedtime read! (but it is one of my favorite books of all time, so I hope you enjoy it!!)

I used to have that same goal of reading every book I own but now it just doesn’t make sense to me to not have a bookshelf full of possibilities instead of a display of what I have already read. If I won’t reread it or really appreciate owning it, I give it away to open room for new goodies. It’s like a refrigerator full of fresh food I never tasted before (and some of my favorites cause I’ll never get sick of them).

I’m so impressed you have a bed time book, especially choosing ones that are breezy. I would end up reading way past the time I should, never getting any rest

hi emma from canada!! idk if it qualifies as a tomb, but it is a big book that i've been loving recently and i think you might like it as well: crossroads by jonathan franzen. it's about religion and familial connections in 1970's america. the writing is incredible and it pulled me out of a slump quicker than anything.

I think you're going to be really surprised at how much you love Van Gogh's letters.

My favorite recommendation for new TBR jars is to have creators pick the first book at random, then use the colors on the cover to pick the next one. So each book cover picks your next read. It usually gives a lot of variety and gives you some room for interpretation and genre depending on the colors.

Have you ever seen that episode of Friends where Rachel makes Joey read her favorite book and vice versa? Well the books are Little Women and The Shining. When Joey got scared of The Shining he'd put it in the freezer. And when he is reading Little Women for the first time and he discovers Beth's fate, Rachel asks him if he wants to put it in the freezer because he is so upset. It's just funny how you are reading both books so close together for the first time. The Shining didn't scare me enough to be banished to the freezer but Beth, sweet Beth. Little Women deserves a time out after that.
