This is a recording I made on March 28, 2020, in order to answer a student's question. I had given a virtual lecture to ANTH 43, an anthropology class taught by Prof. Albert Gonzalez at California State University, East Bay. I gave my lecture on behalf of the Clarence E. Smith Museum of Anthropology, for which I played a small role in helping to create in 1974-1975. Afterwards, students sent me their questions as follow-up. This particular question asked about the connection I believe exists between Dr. Clarence E. Smith (Smitty), Salvador Lopez (the last Cahuilla "fire-eater"), and Carlos Castaneda, the author of "The Teaching of Don Juan," among other titles.
