For over a century, many have believed that Colon Street in Cebu is the oldest street in the Philippines, a claim even supported by two National Historical Institute markers. However, historian Jobers Reynes Bersales debunks this as one of the country's longest-standing myths.

The misconception started in 1910 with a postcard labeled "Oldest Street in Cebu" and grew with other postcards and guidebooks over the years. Despite this, there are no Spanish-era documents or maps to support the claim. Instead, historical evidence points to Magallanes Street as the oldest street, named after Ferdinand Magellan and located near Cebu's historic trading port and Plaza Sugbu, where the first baptism in 1521 took place.

Colon Street is about a kilometer inland and was outside the original Spanish settlement that was built during the time of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, making it an unlikely candidate for this title. Magallanes Street, which runs through the oldest part of the city, should rightfully hold the distinction of being the Philippines' oldest street.
