Sewing Machine Needles

Thank you for this video. This really helps when trying to decide which sewing machine needle to use for different fabric.

I am trying to repurpose my toddler's clothing. Most of her clothing is stretch-type fabric and I really want to know the best needle or needle set to invest in to achieve quality stitching. What would you recommend. I've been told to buy, a stretch needle, a jersey needle, a ballpoint, etc....I am having the hardest time achieving thread tension with the universal pack I just purchased and i think it may be the needle type I should check out. Thanks.

You can get away using a ballpoint needle. Universal just implies that it works on multiple machine types. It's kind of like the generic brand of needles instead of, say, "Singer Ballpoint," which we can assume was made specifically for Singer machines. Make sure that your thread tension is a little looser than normal, so for my machine, it would be a small number. Use a small zig zag stitch and slightly pull as sewing. When released the stitch will slightly stick up. Hope that helps

well, eventually your needle will get dull with a lot of use. It is important to use the right needle for the right fabric. Using the wrong needle can cause problems just as skipped stitches or if you use a heavy duty needle for a delicate fabric, you can damage your fabric. I use Inspira Needles, they are designed for Husqvarna Viking but you can use them for a wide variety of machines but Singer I think because I was told Singer uses a different needle or something. Inspira also is a bit more easier to read with a manual. Also they don't seem to break as easily as Shmitz, despite Inspira is made in Brazil and Shmitz is made in Germany.

Where can I purchase those needles that you used in your video. I need the kind that has the fabric type written on it. I keep forgetting which needle to use when sewing. Thanks

How do I determine the tread to use?  By the way, how do I know the weight of a fabric, for I asked this same question at the store, Jo-Ann, and there was not a good answer?  I thought that the weight of the fabric is listed on bolt fabric info, but it is not.  Anyhow, thanks for your video.

And what are these numbers measuring on the needle 70 and underneath 10,
Is the 70` is 70mm in length And the 10` is 10 mm in width

Hello I recently happened upon a singer rocketeer or 500 series . This machine is one I am learning on . Anyway it has a setting of double lines . I wonder if this takes a special needle . Thank You abd God bless
