Your argument about being the same as a different esport is not valid. I shouldn’t have to Buy Call of Duty 1 to Get a Meta Gun in Call of Duty 3. I bet if they made all the Pokémon accessible in the game to begin with we wouldn’t be having such a big issue. His statement is right it’s about battling it’s not about who can breed the best. Show me another Esport where you don’t get all the tools you need to be successful. The real issue is, Pokémon doesn’t care about VGC. It’s a mere drop in the bucket for their company.

I like how after he has made the argument that using showdown to compare stats is cheating because it is third-party, he goes on to say that using third-party software to calculate how to rng manipulate a pokemon in gens 4/5 is totally okay.

Very nice. I love how calm Verlis is. He’s literally giving this man every chance he can get but at the end of the day he doesn’t consider it a sport and more of a hobby despite going to tournaments with money involved. People not having money to buy 2 extra games is silly. That’s like saying a soccer player can’t afford a new pair of shoes and a jersey. It’s all up to them if they buy it or not

In the time it took to watch this I could have put together a 6 mon team from scratch. You not having time is not an excuse for breaking the rules. Just because you don't get caught breaking the rules doesn't mean you didn't break the rules. It just makes you a better cheater than the guy that got caught.

That is wild how he says the only skill that matters is the actual battle. Like no…actually hunting/breeding the Pokémon and training it is literally part of the skill itself bro…

Something worth asking is: If someone gens pokemon that are identical to the ones anyone can get like say a physical sweeper garchomp, is it still cheating if the chomp in question performs the same as a regular bred one? Maybe worth diving in to what makes the genned pokemon anymore performant?

The rule for hacking pokemon in a tournament isn't likely going to change, Its not "Gonna gen them all" its "Gotta catch them all" Cheating is cheating, if its a rule in the rulebook it doesn't matter if 95% of people break that rule or not, or if 95% of those people want it changed or not. Why don't people understand this?

His arguments were very circular in their logic.

Is it illegal to use a pokemon that failed the hack check?
Yes.
Is it illegal to gen?
Not if it passes the hack check.

I also like in the beginning where he basically admits you can't compete in VGC without a time and money commitment that they don't want to commit BUT they still want to compete with ALL pokemon available at any point in time.

What?

Good this was so painful to watch/hear. Guillermo's dishonest arguments, god even calling them arguments sounds wrong, excuses and pleas to feel sorry for the pokemon players with lesser means and/or time in an attempt to win a debate were just sad.
If I pass the hack test then I'm not cheating 🤦... And if I do is because they're ok with genning GOD man such dishonesty. The way he dodges the steroids argument (which is a great comparison) was so annoying, he kept deflecting and changing the subject every freaking time JESUS FREAKING CHRIST...
Also the "I was reading the rule", "Speak slower" (when 5 seconds later he's almost spiting bars in clear intelligible English...) was so infuriating and combined with the repeated "if I don't get caught I'm not cheating", the only think that comes to mind is that he was trying to piss you off so much to the point you would have insulted him.

So I just wanted to congratulate you @Verlisify for keeping a cool and calm demeanor while keeping the discussion on point.
Awesome attitude and argumentation, truly man.

I play exclusively showdown and don't even get the actual pokémon games anymore, so my stance on genning is not really any more than acknowleding it's against the rules. That being said though as somebody who is close to neutral on this debate Verlisify won this debate 100%. Kudos to KastyTP for being brave enough to debate, but he could not make a single legit argument.

His whole argument if flawed and it’s sad lol 😂 don’t have time to play the game. They should change their rules to fit me. If you do t have time for your “hobby” Pokémon to compete then don’t go. Simple as that. Then the whole being busy with a life argument.

Again I’m married have a full time job I go to school and take care of my family on top of squeezing some hours to breed my own time.

"Just like Chess, etc." In Chess you don't have to bring your own board and pieces, this is just a false equivication. Cheating by definition is gaining an unfair advantage over another person through a certain action, there is no unfair advantage in genning your Pokemon because at the end of the day it doesn't make it more powerful or more effective at anything than anybody else's Pokemon. I just don't get the need to make false equivications like "It's like steroids in sports" when that's so obviously wrong, not all cheating is equal and in this case genning is something that provides no advantage other than time saved.

JP players face harsh punishments for modding game data (up to five years in prison and fines up to 5 million yen), this alone makes the debate of "legalized genning" obsolete. It's a literal felony to mod game data in Japan and ethically, Pokemon cannot allow genning for this very reason upon all others. Imagine if I only got a slap on the wrist (if that) for genning, but if you get caught you face irreversible life-changing consequences that include losing 5 years of your life. It's not even about an "irrelevant advantage", Asia players' efforts would be completely devalued and their accomplishments overshadowed by those who took shortcuts.

It's very very very very simple. You never allow aimbotting or wall hacking in a FPS shooter. Yet Pokemon has let cheating run rampant. It's definitely not a respected esport as a result and will never be until they crack down. /Debate

It’s just annoying because I like to do competitive but then you run into all these cheaters. I spend so much time on training my teams and working on different strategies but I run into these morons kinda makes you not want to travel to these comps. Maybe if there were not so many cheaters then the competitive scene would be a lot bigger in meaning bigger prize money? SMH oh well we will see where this all goes.

He inadvertently brought up a good point. People with illegal Pokémon should probably be dropped from tournament entirely instead of just have that Pokémon dropped from the tournament. I think that’s what he means by infraction, because they should probably kick you out if you cheated.
