Unabridged dictionaries are absolutely the coolest books. They should come with upturned collars

Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary also kinda fell into my lap. It was on my friends coffee table and he said he had never seen it before. He gifted it to me and I was immediately enraptured by it, but that swiftly turned into post traumatic stress disorder because of it's cryptic quotations, trademarks and copyrights of colophon and TREE OF KNOWLEDGE in the 1983 version.

World Book Dictionary is a fantastic and elaborate one. I have the first volume and its year of publication was 1990. I have been using this lexicon since July 2006.

there are only four English Dictionaries that use Greek Letters in the etymologies:
1. the first edition of Webster's new international dictionary of the english language.
2. the Century dictionary and it's spin-off, the New century dictionary.
3. the complete OED.
4. the first three editions of the Shorter OED.
the first two works also have delightful illustrations, even photographs!
