My tux shirt has the option to use buttons or wear studs. I would simply choose to skip the studs, and I’d feel fine. How do you feel about cuff links?

Good question on the cuff links. I have a tux shirt for the tux and I do have the very plain-Jane front shirt for the kilt wear. I have worn the tux shirt with the kilt before, but I do agree it distracts from the rest of the outfit.

I have a winged collar shirt with a placket front. Proper! So Rocky since these are hard to find, why don’t you sell them?

You were thinking of a “pleated front” tux shirt. That should be easy to remember for you kilt guys!!

Claymore imports constantly has ex rental shirts, $10 isn’t bad for a decently nice shirt. It’s really just a plain shirt with French cuffs and optional studs. You can get plenty of nicer shirts, but if you are going on there and getting an ex-rental PC or some hose or flashes why not ad a shirt?

If a winged collar shirt is the proper shirt, perhaps you could update the photos on your Website which show a tux shirt…. Additioally you could summarize this information in the description block for your Prince Charlie ensamble...

For my saffron tartan kilt I use a long sleeve Oxford type of shirt with a tie if I go more formal

And unlike the picture they showed, no buckle with a dress sporran in the prince Charlie!

Are tux jackets okay to wear with a kilt?
I'm asking because I have two of them and it sort of makes sense to do it.

Can you please make an item closer to traditional and make a trend? Is there an alternative shirt you sell and recommend to assuage this? 😍😍 you both do so much to keep Scottish tradition alive in the states and how cool of a legacy to leave ?!

I think they've become so ubiquitous that people are used to seeing something there, like with tuxedos. Most people, besides noticing the whole of the outfit, don't really notice or know of the nuances of the complete kit. They're just used to seeing something there rather than a swath of plain white, whether they're cognizant of it or not.

Some guys fill that area with Masonic medals or chains.

I went to my local tartan shop about 4 years ago. dropped over a grand to add a formal look to my already loud MacLeod, kilt. I purchased Prince Charlie jacket, with vest, Ghillie Broguee shoes, White knee socks, flashers, Sgian Dubh, kilt pin, cufflinks, black bow tie & a shirt. But, what shirt? For they only sell this darn Tuxedo formal shirt. nothing else....Now ya be telling me I ain't be a dressing right LOL! Oh time to be drinking straight from the bottle Släinte Mhath.

No winged collars, unless you are going white tie. Regular collar, silver studs optional. If a stud shirt, plain as possible. Pique bib is nice, pleats no. Plain white dress shirt w buttons fine
French cuffs of course for formal evening

I find it hilarious that a kilt maker drew a bland when talking about pleats. 😂

I've been wearing a kilt for dress events around three years now. Generally when I go to the theater or symphony. I've always felt a little odd not wearing a tuxedo shirt. It almost feels like I'm pretending my outfit is formal as opposed to it being formal. Being around a large group of people wearing tuxedo shirts. I feel as though it would help bridge the mental gap. The suggestion of wearing pearl studs sounds better. Plus the shirts just don't stay as flat and neat as the tux shirts.

I'm planning to put together a kilted evening outfit eventually, but it's so expensive. I might ask my brother-in-law to help me customise a shirt to start. Then I'll have to save up money for either an Argyll or a PC. I'd sooner get a tweed for day wear though because that's more versatile and doesn't require a dress sporran.
