I relate to this points of the video alot because rn I'm struggling to find a style/way of drawing that looks good and unique while also being reasonably fast enough to complete (since I want to make comics and meeting deadlines even self-imposed would still be a really helpful skill). I know the conventional artist wisdom is to just draw without worrying about style, but I also think taking the time to focus on this for now would save a lot of time and grief later on.
It worries me a little because I'm also scared that I might drop the bar too low for myself if I decide to go with more simple rendering, but recently I've also been thinking "well if I'm gonna just have to go with lines and flat color, I'm still gonna strive to make it look professional af"
Hey that's actually a question I had for quite a while now.. When do I even stop ? Like I'm painting and at some point I dont even think I'm adding anything to my scene but I still feel like it's lacking something so I keep adding random details.. But yeah keep grinding x)
ОтветитьHe's ashamed of saying blizzard now
ОтветитьThis piece is beautiful
ОтветитьHi Trent , for some unknown reason I could not buy one of your workshops
ОтветитьSchool made me think I have to master everything and ended up making me not enjoy what I liked to do instead of just honing in my niche and expand from there.
So what you are saying is for sure...what I needed to hear.
I should have said this to myself years ago instead turn into a hermit b/c I am so self consciouse.
Fellow artists...if this is first time watching this, you must watch it again....immediately.
ОтветитьQUALITY CONTENTT!!
as always
youre weird bro
ОтветитьSooooo could he be talking about Blizzard? Creating a hostile enviourment for employees to drive up productivity and all? Artists and Workers developing anxiety attacks? sounds familiar
Ответитьman i need this daily dose of trent medicine
Ответить✏️
ОтветитьGreat video! Really motivating and good to get me started in the morning :)
ОтветитьThat was the fastest 'ciao baby oh yeah' yet. Meeting those deadlines, I see
ОтветитьWhat would petty squabbles in the work place look like ?
ОтветитьTrent, you really are a Anime wise mentor character for me
ОтветитьThank you Trent. Great advice here.
ОтветитьAnxiety killed me. Now I don't have it at all and feel better
ОтветитьHow much time did you spend on this piece then? We want to know!
It’s awesome by the way…
Thanks for the awesome content Trent! I just got a concept artist job at an art house as I ran into a new situation. When you're doing things like dozens of weapon variations or props, similar to what you did for your weapon design video, how do you keep coming up with mini stories for every weapon if the direction isnt exactly defined yet?
ОтветитьSounds like they just like to blow smoke up your ass to get you to work harder. Its mostly psychological bullshit.
Ответитьit was drilled into our heads at uni that we HAVE to meet our deadlines our it will cost us our job, and ok maybe in some graphic design companies that might happen, but it always bugged me that quality was sacrificed in order to meet those deadlines but thats probably why I'm not with a company and can work how ever long I want on a project. I know there can be very quick turn around times between briefs/projects but it often ends up with an end piece that doesnt fit or look right
ОтветитьRough question, but do you think that you would be able to get a job with your current skill from scratch? No blizzard background and no Aquatic Moon business model, but the same level of your art, and you can make a portfolio from zero?
Awesome video by the way, like usual. I cannot stop watching all of them.
In the game art program I went through in school, I was lucky enough to be taught how to quickly do matte paintings and illustrations by both a comic book artist who was working in the field and a concept artist in the gaming industry. They taught us the masked method, using clipping masks and photo bashing, and it dramatically sped up the process. The general idea they instilled was to come up with an art recipe and template that you can execute quickly if you have a tight deadline. It's helped me consistently knock out a fan art illustration a week for the past year, and Trent's words about pushing yourself and your recipe/template a little every time rings true.
ОтветитьI guess you were talking about blizzard? I bet they push every artist to their limits with the least amount they accept as payment.
Ответитьgreat advice as always✨
i felt silly when i started to deal with anxiety once i started this quality vs speed art journey but hearing you say you also dealt with that acts as a reminder on how much of a mental part this job plays.
Oh, how the tides have changed that your previous employer is now a "prestigious company at the time" XDD
ОтветитьWatched the first 5 minutes then went straight back to the start. This is gold man. Thank you Trent. ♥️
Ответить,,The answer is... at the end of the video. Im kidding answer yes. " Sir I adore you 🤣🤣🤣
Ответитьexcellent work and words
ОтветитьIs it possible to do such a detailed art like this in procreate ?
ОтветитьBet the 1 dislike on this video is himself, just to push himself to be better. xD Great video! Good for motivation and a confidence boost without sugarcoating anything and just syaing it as it is.
ОтветитьAnother outstanding environment piece! And of course great advice. Thank you!
Ответитьthank you trent, im currently reworking on my portfolio and this video really gave me a slap in the forehead
ОтветитьYour voice over and teaching skills are as outstanding as your art. Appreciate the wisdom and beauty here.
ОтветитьAnxiety is not bad. But not being able to control your anxiety is bad. Losing control is the biggest enemy in every industry it causes burnouts, depression, and so much more stress related issues. Befriend your anxiety. Take a mental note what are you anxious about and do your best to make sure it wont happen.
ОтветитьDo you think having multiple Concept art skills will contribute to getting a job at a game studio as a junior?
i can draw hands and feet well naturally but my specialty is in different things
Evening Trent. Just out of curiosity do you have a tutorial for making environments such as these with your process?
ОтветитьI hate the way technology doesn’t actually make our lives better, it just makes the overlords expect a ton more.
ОтветитьLook at that pen control. This man is a maestro with ripped fingers, dexterously working the edges of the values so succinctly, they never drift, they never waiver...they are simply put where they need to be.
Ответитьreal artist be like
corporate robot on weekdays
draws hentai on the weekends
GG
Discovered your channel. Seems like I have found purpose of my life. Love your art style your creativity. And the starting viking voice wow. Just love it
ОтветитьIt’s a shame that the “faster” or “higher quality” criticisms were management techniques, catch-22’s to push you
ОтветитьI never had "these" pressure points with deadlines in freelance industry, sure quality checks yeah but never "get it done asap or else".
ОтветитьPsychonauts 2 is awesome! Loved the 2nd game. Worth the wait!
ОтветитьThanks for the Heads up
ОтветитьFelt this to my core 😅
ОтветитьWorking with some indies now, thanks to your discord, coming back here as a refresher so it can help me with my work.
ОтветитьHi, your videos and content is so inspiring thank you for sharing them. I would like to be a concept artist and I need to be confident and post my works but you are inspiring me so much and I’m so grateful for it thank you
ОтветитьGreat advice Trent!
