Florecent Die is handy turns the water green, as a piot it is nearly impossible to see anything when flying more than about 700ft...also try to save flares for night and a mirror for the day, us pilots when not on a search and rescue mission will not pay enough attention to see a flare...powerful lasers work great at night and maybe even a cloudy day too but they are not waterproof so you can throw one in the dingy and try to keep it dry. Another thought is a handheld aviation radio and set the channel to 121.5. It's the emergency frequency.
