StarMediaEN: Excellent series, thanks a lot. I was in the British Army when the Sov's went in to Afghanistan, so it was always amusing when they were given a kicking by the Afghans. Watching this series, however, I was on the side of the Sov's - just as I was when watching the brilliant 9th Company. Big thanks for your WWII series as well.

Good show, I've watched three of these mini series in a row. Pretty straight human drama without heavy political or propaganda messages. Just stories about people at War whether they like it or not. Russians are a passionate people not overly concerned with PC so some Americans may find the dialogue a little exaggerated. Sometimes you got to fill in the blanks with the subtitles. It's easier to translate words than it is Translate concepts and informal speech. I'm no expert on Soviet Union uniforms weapons and equipment but everything looked good and the sets look really detailed. Locations camera work and editing are first class. Will watch more of these. It's summertime and this beats hell out of watching the bacheloret or american ninja warrior. Thank you for the good entertainment.

Afghanistan Always the graveyard of empires...has U.S.A. has learned nothing from history ?

I'm a former New Zealand Infantry soldier, now an elderly veteran. I have watched an impressive four episodes of this series, which held my attention throughout.
Most of us know what happened to the Russians in that weird country, they were even being attacked as they withdrew, just like the US, many young soldiers made the final
sacrifice, shocking stuff, the poor bastards didn't know who the enemy was, coz they didn't wear a uniform. The truth was and is, you would not be able to trust anyone in that country.
Indeed, many allied servicemen were murdered by the very people they were sent there to train. For me, this was disgusting to read reports of this, same side attacks.
This movie series in my opinion was very realistic and the actors portrayed the soldiers truthfully, not as tough guys but more as just human beings sent there to do a job
and showed quite candidly, most did not want to be in that God forsaken country. Lest we forget. God Bless New Zealand.

I was in the east European army in the late 79'.we were in the 24/7 when the Russian entered the Afghanistan and we thought we will be sent as well. Poor Russian soldiers that died for nothing.
Stupid politics and politicians.
Anyway thank you for excellent series.

Proud to be Afghan, many came and many more will come but they will leave with their tail between their legs. Throughout our history, we were always attacked when we were poor and helpless even today. However, during all these conflicts If we had the same weapons as that of our enemies, by god none of them would have lasted even 2 months after entering our holy land. Remember This is Afghanistan, the Land of legendary warriors where honourable death is preferred than long miserable life. We always respect a brave enemy. For us it is an honour to die in the hand of warriors but not in the hand of those who fight like cowards. Great respect from Afghanistan, Despite our bloody past with Russians.

I've never been in combat but I've seen far too many not yet dead men get off one last shot in too many war flicks. The Zombieland movies are corny but the double-tap is an extremely wise personal strategy for survival.

Spoiler Alert: the ending of the chase not only sucks but was poorly written.

Liosha lived! Another very fitting portrayal of soldiers in arms. They fought for each other and their country.

Watched all four episodes in one sitting. Very nice. Not like the Hollywood crap showing one american soldier finishing 100 enemies.

Excellent and seemingly very realistic portrayal of a small piece of a large poisoned pie. So many wasted lives...kinda reminds me of the fighting in Ukraine. Respect and RIP for all soldiers 'just doin' their duty, ma'am!" RIP to the 'collateral casualties' of which there are too many to count 😞

I served for Australia 26 years. The old make the wars and the young have to fight. Its the same for all armies. Well done to all of us young, we all did our duty, some paid more with their lives. We Will Remember them.
