I have the Canon TLb, which is pretty much the same, but with a cold shoe. I haven't used it a lot. I'm not a fan of the metering system. I might be doing this wrong, but the aperture needle is fixed and you can only align the needles by altering the shutter speed, which is bloody awkward. But it's the only way you'll get wide open metering.
ОтветитьGreat video. When I was a pimple-faced 15 year old I bought one of these at the camera store with money I earned working at the grocery store. It was the perfect camera to learn the basics of film photography..my high school had a black and white darkroom and I learned a lot. I made money with it too. Within a year I made $200 which is what I paid for the camera. I used the camera for over 25 years. In about 2002 or so a photo studio took me on to shoot weddings. I did a few with this camera and a Vivitar 283 flash. But soon I figured out the camera was not suited for that work so I used my wedding shooter money and bought a Canon EOS 630 and canon 550 flash. That was great with new technology. Then I upgraded to the Canon EOS 1.
ОтветитьMy dad had a Bell & Howell FD35, basically a rebadged TX, on which I cut my photographic teeth in 1983. (B&H handled Canon's North American marketing from 1961 to 1976). I used it for several months from just before a big trip through to my sister's wedding. His had an FD 50 mm f/1.8 standard lens with SSC and a locking (when off the camera) breech-mount ring. He also had a 3rd-party (I forget what make) 28 mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens with non-locking mounting ring.
ОтветитьMy first camera was a Canon TX. I wish whoever took it would give it back. I enjoyed your story but all the hand motions made me a little sick. Like riding in a small boat in heavy seas. Now I'm going to bake a Blue Berry Pie. Thanks
ОтветитьBack in 1976, I to purchased this camera when I was 15 years old and with my own money. It was on my shoulder through middle school and high school. Man that camera took a beating like a champ. It's now Fall of 2024, going thru my belongings for another move... I picked it up going for the trash pile, but couldn't get past the emotions, joy and memories (and money) the TX brought me. It's now in the shop getting new foam, replacement of speed dial top and a good cleaning. Excluding the replacement of the strap eyelet, all it's battle scars will remain. And because the lens are so inexpensive and a new to me, Canon 70-210mm f4 Zoom is on it's way.
